在第二張錄音室專輯［Secrets］(1996)獲得成功後，全球銷量超過 1500 萬張後，

美國黑人歌姬唐妮布蕾斯頓（Toni Braxton）向洛杉磯高等法院提起訴訟，要求解除她與 Arista 和 LaFace Records 的合同，理由是一項法律規定雇主不得在七年後強制執行勞動或服務。

經過一年的法律問題後，布蕾斯頓頓與LaFace Records達成和解，並計劃於１９９９年５月發行一張新專輯。

由布蕾斯頓，Johntá Austin，Teddy Bishop，Bryan-Michael Cox創作，是首電話分手歌曲．

唐妮在電話質疑伴侶的男子氣概，而Dr. Dre扮演任性的情人，向她提出分手。

據製作人Teddy Bishop稱，最初考慮由Martin Lawrence和Will Smith來表演歌曲的台詞部分。

但由於日程安排衝突，計劃最終未能實現。

Dr. Dre 被邀請出現在［Just Be a Man About It／做個男人吧］中，因為錄製這首歌時他在隔壁的錄音室。

Teddy Bishop製作成一首R&B抒情曲，在纏綿的樂聲中，唐妮以濃厚的嗓音沉重演繹．

歌曲獲得好評，CD Universe寫道，“即使是Dr. Dre博士在［Just Be a Man About It］中的客串，也向70年代像Barry White這樣的愛情男人的感性宣講和床邊禮儀致敬。”
