１９６０年，１８歲的美國未來靈魂樂女王艾瑞莎．富蘭克林（Aretha Franklin）渴望追隨山姆庫克錄製流行音樂，搬到紐約，

身為經紀人的父親C.L.富蘭克林同意她的決定，並促成女兒與哥倫比亞唱片簽約．

由Curtis Lewis１９４８年創作，最早由由 Helen Humes 和 Buck Clayton 管弦樂團錄製

艾瑞莎由John Hammond製作成一首藍調／靈魂／爵士抒情曲，

在慵懶的節奏與煙霧瀰漫感的樂聲中，

富蘭克林以具有活力的成熟唱腔演繹 ，讓她的嗓音格外突出．

［Today I Sing the Blues］未入美國告示牌單曲榜，只拿到榜外的＃１０１，

但在副榜──　R&B單曲榜登上第十名，讓她在黑人音樂界受人矚目．

此曲收在１９６１年２月底發行，富蘭克林的首張大碟［Aretha］（由John Hammond製作）中．

但未入榜．

１９６９年，富蘭克林在專輯［Soul 69］中重新錄製［Today I Sing the Blues］，

再度發行，差點入榜──拿到告示牌單曲榜外的＃１０１。
