１９８０年　美國迪斯可女王唐娜桑瑪（Donna Summer）跳槽Geffen唱片

首張大碟［The Wanderer／流浪者］登上美國專輯榜＃１３ 　同名主打登上單曲榜＃３

皆拿到金唱片（專輯標準：５０萬張＋／單曲標準：１００萬張＋）

雖然成績不錯, 但卻沒有達到公司總裁David Geffen的期望

接下來唐娜與長期搭檔Giorgio Moroder&Pete Bellotte籌備下張雙片大碟［I’m A Rainbow］

但Geffen並不滿意這張專輯歌曲, 命令桑瑪改與當紅製作人昆西瓊斯（Quincy Jones）合作另一張唱片［Donna Summer］

唐娜說這是她錄製過程最艱辛的一張專輯：

一來她當時懷孕, 二來某些歌曲挑戰性頗高, 三來她覺得昆西有些喧鬧與控制性

［Donna Summer］是３３歲半的唐娜第十張原創大碟　１９８２年７月出版

這是１９７６年後桑瑪參與創作最少的錄音室專輯──卻是採用其他詞曲家最多的一張

樂風多元, 除以舞曲貫穿整張大碟外, 另有濃厚的靈魂曲風, 加上福音, 搖滾, 放克, 後迪斯可等

樂評中等, 並沒［The Wanderer］廣受讚譽

首支主打是［Love Is in Control（Finger on the Trigger）／愛在掌握中（手指在扳機上）］

隔年並讓唐娜提名葛萊美最佳R&B女歌手

仍無法達成David Geffen期望重現唐娜１９７０年代事業榮耀之願

此後桑瑪在１９８０年代的事業便起伏不定
