"Hey Jude" is a song by Paul McCartney of The Beatles, credited Lennon/McCartney. After 1966, when John Lennon said that they where more popular than Jesus, The Beatles made several struggling attempts, like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road, however the purpose of Hey Jude was to actually comfort Julian Lennon (aka "Jules") of his parents' divorce (John and Cynthia Lennon), but the amazing thing is they did both, they made it go number one on the Billboard hits again and they also comforted Jules.

McCartney himself was wonderful throughout, humble and jocular. Anyone who's seen him in concert recently can tell you that he's still all youthful energy at 68, even if his voice sounds a touch rough at the edges here and there.

The song was written by Paul McCartney, in an attempt to soothe Julian Lennon, John Lennon's son, after his father and mother, John's first wife Cynthia, got a divorce, the original name of the song was "Hey Jules". McCartney thought it up in his car while driving to Lennon's house to babysit his son Julian.

"Hey Jude" begins with a verse-bridge structure based around McCartney's vocal performance and piano accompaniment; further instrumentation is added as the song progresses to distinguish sections. After the fourth verse, the song shifts to a fade-out coda that lasts for more than four minutes.

"Hey Jude" was released in August 1968 as the first single from The Beatles' record label Apple Records. More than seven minutes in length, "Hey Jude" was, at the time, the longest single ever to top the British charts. It also spent nine weeks as number one in the United States—the longest run at the top of the American charts for a Beatles' single, and tied the record for longest stay at #1 (until the record was beaten by "You Light Up My Life"). The single has sold approximately eight million copies and is frequently included on professional lists of the all-time best songs.

"Hey Jude" was the top Billboard Hot 100 single for 1968, according to year-end charts.[41] Less than three weeks after its release, the record was certified gold for sales of one million copies. In 1999, it was certified 4x platinum, representing four million units shipped.[39][42]

Thank you for sharing your memory.
