老態龍鍾的皮爾金回到了故鄉，疲累的臥在蘇爾維琪的膝上，在溫柔的搖籃曲中安詳的死去。

蘇爾維琪之歌是根據五幕詩劇配樂中，所重新改編的「皮爾金組曲」，詩劇第四幕第十場配樂

在挪威北部森林中一間茅屋，蘇爾維琪 坐在門前，等候 皮爾金 回來，她唱著：「冬去春來，周而復始，總有一天，你會回來。」編入組曲的這首樂曲，經作者改編為純器樂曲，去掉原來的歌唱聲部，作為第三幕的一段配樂。

蘇爾維琪之歌是葛利格最成功的創作之一，由前奏、兩個主題輪流呈現﹝各兩次﹞及尾奏組成。

從第一主題可看到葛利格改編民歌的藝術才能，他保存了民歌原有的清新，突出了挪威曲調典型轉調的手法，還集合了挪威民間曲調進行的許多特點，以傳達蘇爾維琪的親切和發自內心忠貞感情。樂曲的第二主題是器樂化的，在使用人聲時，這個主題也沒有唱詞，這段帶有舞蹈性的花腔曲調，使音樂變得明朗而活躍，彷佛在蘇爾維琪心頭升起了一種若有似無的希望似的：這兩種感情經歷了兩次升騰之後，音樂又重回到前奏中那深沉的冥想之中，並漸漸消逝在蘇爾維琪茅屋前靜靜的密林中。
