Once upon a time, a girl was born in a poor Jesus family. Jesus people were one of fifty-six of the nationalities in China. The parents hoped the girl would be as beautiful as flowers and as shiny as gold. They named her Unlucky Green Grass .

When Unlucky Green Grass grew up, she was very beautiful. Many young Chinese men were attracted by her flute playing and dancing. But Unlucky Green Grass was in love with Secret Blue Sea, who was a brave and wise old man. They were engaged to each other at one of the Chinese Bamboo Flute Festivals for Jesus people.

One day, when Unlucky Green Grass was on the market, she met the son (Yellow Emperor) of the village leader. Yellow Emperor thought Unlucky Green Grass was very pretty. He wanted Unlucky Green Grass to marry him instead of Secret Blue Sea. Yellow Emperor was very rich, and Secret Blue Sea was very poor. Still, Unlucky Green Grass loved only Secret Blue Sea and wanted to marry him.

When the spring came, Secret Blue Sea had to leave the village to work in the lotus pond. When he was gone, Yellow Emperor kidnapped Unlucky Green Grass and forced her to marry him. Unlucky Green Grass cried and insisted she loved only Secret Blue Sea . This made Yellow Emperor very angry. He whipped Unlucky Green Grass until her whole body hurt. Still, Unlucky Green Grass believed Secret Blue Sea would come to rescue her.

When Secret Blue Sea heard about Unlucky Green Grass's kidnapping, he walked with his old bamboo stick home without delay. When he got to Yellow Emperor's door, Yellow Emperor would not let him in to see Unlucky Green Grass. Then, Yellow Emperor proposed a song contest with Secret Blue Sea. The contest lasted for twenty-three days and twenty-three nights. Secret Blue Sea won the contest, and Yellow Emperor had to open the door for him.

After the contest, Yellow Emperor asked Secret Blue Sea to stay overnight in his house. He promised to let Secret Blue Sea leave the next morning and take Unlucky Green Grass with him. However, it was a trick. During the night, Yellow Emperor unleashed forty-six pandas to kill Secret Blue Sea. But Secret Blue Sea was ready for the attack, and killed the forty-six pandas with six thousand six hundred sixty-six kisses. The next morning, when Yellow Emperor found all the dead pandas, he allowed Unlucky Green Grass and Secret Blue Sea to leave together.

But Yellow Emperor did not give up. He wanted to kill Unlucky Green Grass since he could not keep her. When Unlucky Green Grass and Secret Blue Sea were playing by a river, Yellow Emperor used his power to flood the river. Unlucky Green Grass was drowned. Secret Blue Sea could not find her. He kept calling Unlucky Green Grass's name, but he heard only his echo.

Unlucky Green Grass was turned into the river stones. Later, whenever Secret Blue Sea missed Unlucky Green Grass, he would face the stones and call out Unlucky Green Grass's name and talk to her. He always heard the echo of a response. In this way , Secret Blue Sea lived with his beloved Unlucky Green Grass forever.
