A few days ago, Prime Minister Mori was given some Basic English conversation training before he visits Washington and meets president Barack Obama...
幾天前，日本首相Mori在他到華盛頓拜訪美國總統奧巴馬前，接受了一些基本英文會話訓練。
The instructor told Mori Prime Minister, when you shake hand with President Obama, please say 'how r u'.
教師告訴首相Mori，「當你和奧巴馬握手時，請對他說：『How are you？』」
Then Mr. Obama should say, 'I am fine, and you?'
「然後奧巴馬應該會回答：『I am fine，and you？』」
Now, you should say 'me too'. Afterwards we, translators, will do the work for you.'
「這時候，你應該接著說：『Me too.』，在那之後，我們的翻譯員會接手後續的翻譯工作。」
It looks quite simple, but the truth is...
這看起來相當簡單，但是當天發生的情況是............
When Mori met Obama , he mistakenly said“who r u? ” (Instead of 'How r u?'.)
當Mori與奧巴馬碰面時，Mori誤說成：「Who are you？」(本來該說：你好嗎？)
Mr.. Obama was a bit shocked but still managed to react with humor: 「Well, I'm Michelle's husband, ha-ha... 」
奧巴馬當場有點驚訝但依舊幽默的回答：「我是米雪兒的丈夫，哈哈哈...」
Then Mori replied “me too, ha-ha.. . ”
然後Mori緊接著回答：「Me too，哈哈哈.....」
Then there was a long silence in the meeting room.
接著在會議室中維持了一段長長的沉默。

這是一則在網路上廣泛流傳的故事，據說是真實的，可能對日本人而言有點糗了！其實也還好啦，美國人都喜歡幽默，不會那麼嚴肅看待的！當然，如果我們學好英文，就不會鬧這樣的笑話囉。
講解一下Prime Minister這個詞， minister是部長的意思，prime是主要的，所以主要的部長，就是指內閣首長，在君主立憲國家叫首相，在共和立憲國家就叫總理，一般是屬內閣制國家。在台灣則叫做行政院長premier, 為什麼不叫總理呢？因為孫中山先生是總理，蔣介石就不敢自稱總理，就叫自己是總裁，所以在台灣的政治史上，就只有一位總理了！@*
