★合抱之木，生於毫木；九層之臺，起於累土；千里之行，始於足下。 There are two approaches to winning a contest. One way is to cut down your opponent. This can range from simple name-calling to sabotaging your opponent's effort. The other way is to be better than your opponent. However, if your aim is merely to be better than your opponent, then your sights are set only at being higher than his or her. A much more effective approach is to forget the opponent and compete with yourself. People who reach greatness have inner drive to reach perfection. 
Humility & keeping a low profile raises your esteem in the eyes of others. It helps you to keep yourself on an even keel. It gives you hindsights and foresight. It also helps you to see yourself in a better light. You can compare a person with egomaniac to an inflated balloon, the more he puffs himself up the nearer he comes to blowing himself up. The reality of someone better than him could only come as a rude shock to him someday. No matter how excellent we are, there will always be someone better. 
There are very few people among us. What makes people great and a cut from all the rest? And what do great people have in common? A great man should have a lot of self-confidence and intelligence quotient. He should be a man of great ability. He should also be a man of vision. He is someone who has a great cause to fight for. A great man is someone who can rise to the occasion. He never shies away from responsibilities and challenges. He is always the man of the honor. You deserve the glory what you are.
