Dear Friends,

"Corporations Expand Influence Leading Into Midterms"
"Chamber of Commerce Issues Battleground-Seat Warning"
"Corporations, Unions May Stick to Cloaked Campaign Spending"

Headlines like these (all real examples from the past week) are cropping up all across the country.

Fair Elections Now!

Because voters, not special interests, should decide elections.

Act Today!

Wealthy special interests are compiling multi-million dollar war chests – and in some cases pouring funds into front groups to hide their identity – to try to manipulate our elections.

We need to act now to prevent the 2010 elections from becoming a special interest-driven travesty.

Make a gift today to help us fight for Fair Elections Now!

Fair Elections would provide qualified candidates with limited public funding in exchange for taking contributions of no more than $100 from any source.

It is the best chance we have to reclaim our democracy after the appalling ruling by the Roberts Court to open the floodgates to corporate and union spending on elections.

And not only is it good policy, but it's good politics as well. Polling released on Wednesday by Common Cause and our coalition partners found that voters are more likely to support candidates who favor Fair Elections than those who back other, less comprehensive, measures that are being proposed.

Meanwhile, 87% of voters believe that members of Congress are influenced more by campaign donors than by constituents, and nearly three-quarters say Congress has not done enough to limit special interest influence.

Act today to help us drive that message home: Congress must pass Fair Elections Now.

Thanks for all you do,

Bob Edgar
and the rest of the team at Common Cause

P.S. Here are a handful of stories from states where Common Cause is on the ground, spreading the message about Fair Elections in the press and to grassroots activists. Help us do even more by making a gift today.

* CaliforniaPoll reveals deep suspicion of money's political influence
* Connecticut: Poll: Contributors unfairly influence campaign
* Delaware: Most in Delaware say there's too much money in politics
* New Mexico: Polls show CD1, CD2 voters want campaign-finance reform
