一、課程說明 (Course Description)
Listening activity is a good starting way for learners to have some knowledge of the target language. It is believed that listening work not only provides an important entry to the sound system and the grammatical rules of the language, but also offers a direct link to vocabulary and ideas crucial to the culture of the language.
This course will have the F·R·I·E·N·D·S season 1 as the main course material. All activities will be based on the episodes. The objectives of this course are trying to enhance learner's vocabulary in daily usage, to improve learner's understanding in listening to spoken English, and to train learner's communicative strategies through designed activities. Moreover, it attempts to keep that evoked interests in English learning as the FRIENDS series having 10 seasons in total.

2. Customized copies of vocabulary, expressions, cultural information, plot summary and the script of each episode
三、教學方式(Teaching Method)
The class hours will go as following procedures:
1. introducing the plot summary
2. 1st viewing the episode without subtitle
3. 2nd viewing the episode with explanation and discussion
4. Speaking exercise: Trivia Questions / Scene discussion
四、成績考核(Evaluation)
Midterm exam: 30%
Final exam: 40%
Individual project: 10%
Attendance: 10%

課程大綱
本課程的目標是
(一)幫助學生熟悉國際時事，並擴大視野
(二)透過對國際時事的討論，協助學生發展分析能力；
(三)協助學生將其所學應用於日常生活的英語溝通中。

教學方式(Teaching Method)
每位修課同學必須參與課堂主題資料的閱讀及討論，授課老師將會協助同學的發音及用字，並解釋與分析閱讀資料。學生可隨時提出問題，參與討論，但也會被要求回答問題，因此本課程的學習過程將會是一個互動模式。課程的參與極為重要，將會佔總成績相當重的比例。
為了讓同學對自己的報告及期末成績的評分有更充份的瞭解，授課教師將利用期末的兩個星期與各學生討論其整體表現，讓學生能夠從質化評量中，提昇並改進學習成效。
教學進度(Syllabus)
在一學期的課程中，學生需要閱讀大約六到八個主題的相關資料。除了參與課程內的討論外，每位學生也需要寫三到四篇長度約為兩頁的報告，將其對討論主題的感想予以陳述。平均兩到三週將討論一個主題，由於國際時事瞬息變化，為了要顧及時效性，有必要就發展之時取材，因此要討論的主題無法預先設定，可能的主題包括但不限於以下諸項：
一、朝鮮半島 (Korean peninsula)
二、環境保護 (environmental protection)
三、中東和平 (Middle Eastern peace)
四、兩岸關係 (cross-straits relations)
五、反恐戰爭 (anti-terrorist campaign)
六、世界經貿組織/G20 (WTO/G20)
七、能源問題 (energy issues)
八、民主與人權 (democracy and human rights)
九、轉型正義 (transitional justice)
十、災難經濟 (disaster economics)
