The Summary

Life after Life

By Dr. Raymond Woody, M.D., PHD

About the author

Raymond Woody is a medical doctor of psychiatrist, a philosopher professor of university of Nevada. specializing research for consciousness.  He is widely known for his books about life and death experiences.  More than 13 million copies of “Life after Life” was sold worldwide.  He was born 1944, his other books are “After death, The evidence for heaven, The light of man, Beyond death.  There are many books has been published by others, reader should not be confused among them.

About Dr. Woody’s research

In the book he mentioned about 150 cases were been studied and about 50 cases had been interview by him, these people are among 3 categories.

(1)   Persons who had been resuscitated after been pronounced dead by their doctors.

(2)   persons who in the course of accident or severe injury or illness, who came very close to physical death.

(3)   Persons who as they near death told the experience to the others who were present for what had happened and these other people reported to the author.

The content of the book.

(1)   The phenomenon of death:

The author first talked about the phenomenon of “death”, he said it could be a taboo subject, most people feel unease to talk about it.  However, some will said:  it is like dreamless sleep, some said it is an annihilation of conscious experience forever, it can cause obliteration for all painful memories.  Either one is not giving us real comfort or hope in facing the death.

(2)   The experience of dying:

on the basis of all case, they are all pretty similar, the likeness constructed a brief and theoretically ideal or complete experience, which embodies all of the common element in the order in which it is typical for them to occur.

A man is dying and hears his doctor pronounce dead.  He begins to hear an uncomfortable noise, a loud ringing noise or buzzing and at the same time he feels himself moving rapidly through a long tunnel.  After this, he suddenly found himself outside of his own body, but still in the immediate environment, and he sees his own body from a distance, as though he is a spectator.  He watches the resuscitation attempt on him and in an emotional upheaval.  After a while, he notices that he still has a body, soon other thing began to happen.  He glimpses the spirit of relatives and friends who have already died, and a loving warm spirit of a kind he has never encountered. at some point, he found himself approaching some sort of barrier or border.  yet he find that he must go back to earth that the time for his death has not yet come.  He is overwhelmed by the intense feelings of joy, love and peace.  Despite his attitude he somehow reunites with his physical body and lives.  later he tried to tell the others, but he has trouble doing so, he can’t find words adequate to describe.  He also found others scoff, so he stops telling other people. Still, the experience affected his life profoundly, especially his views about death and its relationship to life.

Many of people after death and come back to life more or less experienced similar situation yet none of them were exactly the same.  However he or she found the situations inexpressible.  Some of them can hear the buzzing or ringing or whistling or doctors and nurse’s talked about he is dying and tried to save their life. One doctor told the author about the patient he was operating on, all of sudden, the patient had cardiac arrest, they start to resuscitate her, her pupils delate, they thought she was gone, then doctor said “let’s try one more time and then we’ll give up. This time they got her heart beating, later when doctor ask her about what she remember of her death, she said she did hear doctor said : let’s try one more time and then we’ll give up. Which means a dying person can still hear people talks.

Other people mentions that they experienced being suck out like vacuums through a dark tunnel into the light, it was quiet and peaceful for them. Most of people had beautiful feeling when they were dying.

Out of body is another phenomenon dying person some time experienced. For example, a woman recalls that while she was admitted to the hospital for heart trouble, one day she had severe pain in her chest, she pushed the bottom beside the bed to call for the nurses, soon she felt uncomfortable and quit breathing, then she saw herself out of her body, and watch the team tried to save her life.

She felt like a piece of paper floating up on the ceiling watching people trying to perform mouth to mouth resuscitation on her, she said to herself “Why are they going so much trouble? I’m just fine now”.

One recalls that he was nearly died, a good friend of his, Bob, had been dead

several weeks before.  The moment I got out of my body, I had feeling that Bob

was standing there right next to me, but it was strange that I did not see his physical body at all. It was like that until doctor said that I am going to live, then all of sudden he left and never come back again.

The being of light is another subject the author take time to talk about it, he said for the Christian, they will think it is Christ, for the Jewish they will think it is angel.   However most of people seemed to like it and feel a warm sensation around them, some feels being loved and secured. From people ‘s impression about the being of light, It’s just unimaginable and indescribable, It will be an educational effect to some cases too, which is learning to love and acquiring knowledge.

**At the page 54, it says the being of light actually could be “The being of fight”. More case of report giving about seeing lighting and been stop by the border, when they finally back to join their body, the experiences are all good and begin to recover their physical body.  People feel that they were in effect allowed to live by God or by the being of light. A man was nearly dead and back to life, he thought that the purpose by God is for him to help his wife, because his wife had drinking problem.

Many people are hesitated to tell the others what had happened when they are dying to avoid been accused of imagination or craziness.

For those people who encounter the after death experiences, they often adopted a New Views of Death, a ten years old boy was thoroughly convinced that there is life after death, he is not afraid of death at all to a point if someone pull a gun to point at his temple, he said : if they really kill me, I know I will still live somewhere else.

At the, conclusion Woody, he compound several element to give parallels input. First the bible point of view, he quote, Isaiah 26:19: Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. awake and sing.  Daniel 12:2: many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.  Notice that the both of passages suggested that a resurrection of the physical body will occur and that the spirit of physical body is again to sleep.

However, the philosopher Plato said that our souls cannot see reality in itself until they are liberated from the distraction and inaccuracies of physical sense. “Death” is like home coming , is like escape from the prison, is nothing to be afraid of.

Questions

(1)        Do you believe there is life after death?

It is sown in corruption and raised in incorruption:

It is sown in dishonour and raised with glory.

It is sown in weakness and raised with power.

It is sown in a natural body and raised with spiritual body.

It is sown in a natural body and raised with a spiritual body.

What we sow for this life is what we get in our next life.

Plato defines death as the separation of the incorporeal part of a living person, the soul, from the physical part, the body. What is more, this incorporeal part of man is subject to many fewer limitations than is the physical part. Hence, Plato specifically points out that time is not an element of the realms beyond the physical, sensible world. The other realms are eternal.

I believe we are flying from a limited body to an eternal world of soul.

Our souls cannot see reality in itself until they are liberated from the distractions and inaccuracies of the physical senses.

Plato says human language is inadequate to express the ultimate

realities directly. Words conceal rather than reveal the inner natures of

things.

The Tibetan Book of the Dead

He notices that he is still in a body-called the "shining" body-which does not

appear to consist of material substance. Thus, he can go through rocks,

walls, and even mountains without encountering any resistance. Travel is

almost instantaneous. Wherever he wishes to be, he arrives there in only a

moment. His thought and perception are less limited; his mind becomes very

lucid and his senses seem more keen and more perfect and closer in nature to

the divine. If he has been in physical life blind or deaf or crippled, he is

surprised to find that in his "shining" body all his senses, as well as all the

powers of his physical body, have been restored and intensified. He may

encounter other beings in the same kind of body, and may meet what is

called a clear or pure light. The Tibetans counsel the dying one approaching

this light to try to have only love and compassion towards others.

The book also describes the feelings of immense peace and contentment

which the dying one experiences, and also a kind of "mirror" in which his

entire life, all deeds both good and bad, are reflected for both him and the

beings judging him to see vividly.

There is no possibility of his lying or concealing anything. The interior memory is such that there are inscribed in it all the particular things

Whereas spirits converse with each other by a universal language.

The speech of an angel or a spirit with man is heard as sonorously as the

speech of a man with a man; yet it is not heard by others who stand near.

The spiritual state is less limited. Perception, thought, and memory are

more perfect, and time and space no longer pose the obstacles they do in

physical life.

a light of ineffable brightness which he has glimpsed himself. It is

a light of truth and of understanding.

Far age regression is hypnotized and the suggestion is made to him that he go back mentally to successively earlier and earlier times in his life

I believe that any light whatever which can be shed on the death

it would be true that we

cannot fully understand this life until we catch a glimpse of what lies beyond

it.

(2)        Have you ever had out of body experience?

I didn’t see it, but I heard some homicides. When the policemen can’t find any evidence, some clues will be found by their family members who dreamed of the victim and gave them the clues to find the evidence. Finally turns out the powerful way to solve the case.

(3)        Out of body experience is sprit separate with body, quote by the author, what do you think?

Transpiring upon death, or about the precise nature of the

after-death world is especially -rue of the Old Testament but an enlightenment for the buddhism.

They all Notice that a resurrection of the physical body will occur .

We encounter the light or the voice to emanates the instruction from it. From

Buddhism: No matter where you will go , depends what you have done in this life.

(4)        Do you believe in resurrection (incarnation) of next life? if you do, what would you like to be for your next life?

To be a kind person to serve the world.
