The Federal Communications Commission has explicitly stated that intentionally using a phone jammer, GPS blockers, or any other signal jamming device to interfere with authorized radio communications is a violation of federal law. It is crucial to note that this prohibition applies universally and does not provide any exemptions for usage within a business, classroom, residence, or vehicle.

Cell-jamming has the potential to happen from a device approximately 30 feet from the target, or household video cameras.

Footage from a south Charlotte community depicts a suspect stealthily trespassing through a yard at night. However, it is important to note that not all incidents have been captured on camera.

John Shocknesse, VP of Customer Operations for CPI Security, stressed the necessity of proactively preventing interference with wireless devices to ensure seamless communication.

Within a short timeframe, a person could be visible on camera, but the utilization of cell-jamming facilitates their instantaneous disappearance through the activation of a switch or button.

Instances of this issue have been reported by CMPD in relation to home break-ins in certain parts of south Charlotte.

Shocknesse made it clear that there has been no evidence of that activity, emphasizing the importance of awareness and having access to the most advanced technology.

WBTV asked for his insight on the devices that are more prone to being affected by cell-jamming.

Shocknesse highlighted that the matter becomes relevant when considering older wireless devices that do not possess encryption.

He pointed out that the latest security systems and surveillance systems utilize advanced technology, like encryption, to offer greater security.

Shocknesse underscored the importance of cameras and onboard recording, noting that the footage captured can be utilized by the police department in case of any issues.

He also mentioned that the best way to prevent cell-jamming is by using up-to-date technology with encryption and opting for a wired device instead of Wi-Fi.

Maintaining good lighting, using alarm systems, and keeping bushes trimmed below three feet are practical steps to take in order to deter home break-ins.
