這是在高大的黑松樹背陽處拍攝的柏狀灰蘚

柏狀灰蘚泛分佈於世界各地，它們在除了南極洲以外的所有氣候區域，以及各種棲息地都有踪跡。該植物通常生長在樹幹、牆壁及岩石等各種物體的外層，外表看起來非常光滑和有光澤。以前會經過乾燥處理後，被用作枕頭和床墊的填充物。

松葉蕨─古老的蕨類

石松、木賊、松葉蕨這三個植物門屬於較原始的蕨類，合稱擬蕨類。古老的擬蕨類約四億至三億年前的石炭紀是地球的主要生物，古石松類和古木賊類形成大片的森林。如古石松類的鱗木、封印木和古木賊類的蘆木，都是樹幹很粗大的大喬木。到二億多年前二疊紀進入三疊紀，地球發生第三次大冰河，高大的擬蕨類逐漸滅絕，現存的擬蕨類都很矮小而且纖細。松葉蕨雖然與四億多年前的裸蕨類雷尼蕨長的相像，但卻不具親緣關係。松葉蕨簡單的二叉狀地上莖，刺狀的微葉細小無脈。也無真正的根，由地下莖二叉分支形成假根，有真菌與它共生。孢子囊長在「微葉」葉腋，無孢膜保護，肉眼可見，具有三個圓形突起，像三個球擠在一起。成熟時由綠轉黃，由孢子囊頂端裂開。

此植物喜陽怕半陰，耐寒性、耐熱性一般，是廣泛栽培的園藝花卉、切花和乾花材料，適於布置花境和花壇，也適宜作為背景花卉材料。由於繁殖力強，常群生，形成花海。
