1. 跂者不立。
貪圖權位名利猶如用腳尖站立，不可能長久立身處事。
Those who desperate for power and self-interests are like standing with toes would not endure too long.

2. 跨者不行。
傲慢的人猶如用雙腿挾物跳躍而行，人生之路一定走不遠。
The errogant is like hopping with goods held by two knees can not walk too far.

3. 自見者不明。
自認為有先見之明(自我為中心)，其實是昏愚不明智。
Self-claimed to be prescient (self-centered) is in fact foolish.

4. 自是者不彰。
自以為義並不能彰顯自己(反而會給自己帶來羞辱)。
Being self-righteous would not be exalted (instead may incur disgraces).

5. 自伐者無功。
誇大自己的貢獻，等於說自己無功。
Self-bragging one’s contributions is in fact workless.

6. 自矜者不長。
炫耀自己的權勢必為人所鄙視，故人生不會長久。
He who likes self-showing off power will be disdained thus cannot last long.

7. 其在道也，曰餘食贅。
遵行天道的義人把「自見、自是、自伐、自矜」的壞行為，視為吃剩的食物和無用的累贅。
The righteous who abides by the Word of Heaven regards the behavior of “self-centered, self-righteous, self-bragging, and self-showing off” as leftover food and useless surplus.

8. 物或惡之，故有道者不處。
這些壞行為不但令人厭惡，行道的義人更不會接納它。
They are not only disgusting but also not acceptable to the righteous.
