A small potato's mini stories (1) It pays to be honest.
In this Internet world, the time is precious.
I guess no one want to read an article long enough to make
you fall into sleep while reading your dull stories. That is why
Yahoo and Google are smart not to make on-line Ads long.
They know you will simply click a away if you do not attract the
reader's interest and attention.
Let me start a story "It pays to be honest!" and make it short.
That was 1986 some time when I 1st came to LA.
I borrowed my friend car shopped around the used car in Brand Blvd.
in Glendale. It was on Sunday morning around 9am. I was driving
slowly looking around and found there was a big used car store on
the left. I made the left turn and there I was surrounded by a police
car with immediate warning.I stopped my car and showed my new
driver license. I was given a ticket of traffic violation on turning
left at "NO left turn lane".
I attended my 1st court appearing on my traffic violation.
"Michael Han, are you guilty of the violation?" The judge asked.
"I came to the States only a few days ago.
and I was driving at 25 miles an hour on an empty Broadway.
I saw there were no traffic 1000 feet front and no car behind.
I thought it was alright to turn left for that used car store."
"There is a *No left turn sign*. Did you see it?"
"Your honor, I must have missed it."
"Therefore, you are guilty of the violation."
"If that was the law, then I am guilty, Your Honor."
"You are fined $140.00 for the violation."
"Yes, your Honor."
When I walked away to pay the fine in the lobby window.
There appeared the seating Judge running toward me
"Michael, since you just came to the States, I am going to
exempt you from paying the fine. You may go home now
and next time be more careful!"
"Yes. Your Honor."
I did not expect the America Court Judge does have a human side.
That is my stories "It pays to be honest!"
