TO: President Chen The office of the President of the Republic of China No 122, Sec 1, Chung-King S. Rd. Taipei, Taiwan. ROC Tel: 8862-23113731 Saturday March 09, 2002 From: Michael K.Han P.O.Box 85, 6833 Highway 140 Midpines, CA 95345
Dear Mr. President;
I am writing to you directly in hopes that you might help me correct a very hurtful slight, which was done to me by officials of the Taiwanese Military some years ago. On March 7, 1949, as a 15 year old, I joined the Army of then President Chaing Kai Sheik. A few weeks later I was part of large force evacuated to Taiwan. From my induction into the army until my discharge on May 22,1968, I had served a total of twenty years and seventy-five day. Beginning as a recruit I progressed steadily through the ranks to sergeant, commission as lieutenant in June of 1957. My duties included liaison and translating, for which I was commended by the Army and counter parted by American Allies. I retired as a captain. Having served for over twenty years in the Taiwan Army I anticipated a pension. In 1999 I traveled to Taiwan and inquired, at the Ministry of Defense, about activating my pension. It was denied. Despite twenty years served and no good reason given for this denial. I feel this matter should be reconsidered in the light of my service. I served the Taiwan government’s need during a very critical time and this should not be forgotten. I would not be making this request unless I was fully deserving of this benefit.
Very Respectfully
Michael K.Han (Kou-yen, Han) Resident of Mariposa county, CA Cc: Senator Mitch Mccconell, Senate Judicial Committee |
