Part 21. Letter from my old body Daniel
Michael,
Thank you for your phone call followed by emailed articles about your very touching story. At the beginning of the Chinese New Year, I wish you and all your family the best of luck in the Year of the Dog!
You kindly requested me on the phone to write a preface for your book which is expected to be in the press in the near future. Frankly speaking, although this is an honorable job, it doesn¡¦t fit me. Instead, it should be done by a certain renowned medical doctor or professor specializing in this field, or someone who had been troubled with this same kind of disease but was eventually cured through the similar perseverance as you have.
To be honest with you, I have not yet read all your articles in detail. As you know, I am fully occupied with myriads of work everyday, reading hundreds of incoming faxes and emails, and coping with various issues at our offices in Taipei, Hong Kong, and the United States as well as at our factories in China. I only hope that there were more hours in a day and that I could be such an energetic businessman as I was 20 or 30 years ago. It is a pity that in addition to diabetes, I have a problem with my heart. In an effort to live longer, I have to take more than 10 different pills a day! That is why Judy has been persuading me to relax and let our daughter Susan take over the responsibilities.
Nevertheless, after learning from Alan the essence of your well-written articles, I must commend you on your ardent love of life, your great perseverance in fighting against the HB virus and your good intention of sharing your invaluable experience with many other hepatitis patients. The only suggestion that I can make is that it would be better if you could publish those articles in Chinese language which will surely benefit more readers in Taiwan and China who do not understand English as this kind of disease is not popular at all in the English-speaking world.
Michael, excuse me for being unable to write the preface for your book. I firmly believe that a thoughtful person like you who have such good intention to share your experience with others, will continue winning the HB virus and leading a long healthy and happy life!
Daniel
