Pneumonia- Could be A fatal blow to HB patient

On 12/12/1996 I caught pneumonia. I was hospitalized for 2 days in Alhambra Hospital. Based on my knowledge and comprehension that the medication of anti-biotic is definitely not good for HB patient. When I was hospitalized I was under 24 hours special care with nurses all around you.5 doctors took turn to check your situation with nurses rushed in and out of the room.  The moving X-ray was brought into the room checking the lung and abdomen. Two doctors watched the scream and decided that there was water in the abdomen and must be sucked out. The hospital emergently called for my family Dr. Chen and had a doctors consultation meeting in the room. They decided that the water in the abdomen must be pumped out to save my life. I was in a half comma having hard time to breath. They brought in Oxygen to help my respiration.  The antibiotic was injected into my vein monitored by nurse. Every 2 hours, doctor came in to check my condition.“ This is it. Can I make it through? “ I was not sure. My daughter was beside me with straight face not smiling. I have been always optimistic but at that time all I thought was fighting and get it over it. The chance and odds were not in my favor because of my age and being a HB patient. I did not give up the hope to pull it through. My situation after one night rest in bed was improving. I still needed intensive care. When Dr. Chen came to check my condition the 2^nd day, I whispered to Dr. Chen “How much it would cost me? You know I do not have health insurance. I just could not afford to stay too long.” “ I will see what I can do.” She went back to Doctors office and consulted to the Chief. “You may check out if there were not complication after 2^nd day stay. From the 3^rd you let your daughter drive to my clinic for continued antibiotic injection another 3 days. This is the cheapest arrangement.”

“ Thank you very much for your kind understanding with a Buddhist heart.”

The two-day hospitalization was billed for $20,000.00.

I continued having my blood checked by Dr. Chen’s office. Through all years review of HB condition, I come to a conclusion that Pneumonia perhaps contributed the deterioration of liver function and eventually trigger the virus violently advancing its activity in your weak body. And the cancer cell start attacking.

My advices to those of having HBV patient is take care your health particularly not catches cold and protect your self from getting pneumonia.

There is Pneumonia vaccine available for seniors. All you have to do is have it good for 5 years.
