Go home to find the miracle cured 1% HB patient-my sister Yen-Shen.
 

In my correspondence with my mother I learned that my elder sister also had HB and cured by Chinese local Dr. Chang of An-whei and she was cured in China 1995. There was a hope that at the end of tunnel I might be able to see the light. I decided to make a trip to China,

It was a long journey. It took an eleven hours flight by Cathay Airline from L.A. to Hong Kong.  Then the transit from HK by Chinese domestic flight to An-whei’s capital Ho-Fei took another 3 hours.  My sister and brother-in-law met me in the airport.

Tsao greeted me with his tone home- town dialogue: “ Big brother, you must be very tired thru this long trip.” I was very emotional. At moment I felt that time had been frozen.  I could not offer any words in reply. My mind were flashed with the poet Li-Pei lyric: “ Left home in child-hood, and back home with ages; the home town tone has not been changed, only to find you already in grey hair!”  I was chocked with words and controlled not let tear coming out.  Both my sister and brother-in-law hold my luggage with arms on my shoulder. “Ma is waiting for you at home. Let us go home.”

Ma was in her middle eighty, and still healthy full of energy.

We had family reunion dinner on 12/25/1995 to celebrate my mother’s birthday. (See the image) Later in the day, we quickly come to the subject about how to deal with my chronic HB. My elder sister Yen-Sun told me that she used to have HB and were cured by Herb doctor Chang Show-pin. It took 3 years continues herb medicines prescribed by Arching to cure my sister’s HB. The chronic HB needs time to heal. You can not expect a miracle.” Said my brother-in-law.

 

I started trying the herb Dr. Chang prescribed for about 1 month. The POT GPT still not improved while DNA A-FP indicated status quo. The weather was so cold with average temperature about 30’in An-Hwei that I felt that I had to fight on the two front; the HBV and cold weather. In addition, I got motel to take care of. I just could not stay 3 years in China for treatment even if it could mean a cure. I was jokingly making an offer to Dr. Chang.
 “If  you can cure my HBV in 3 months, I am going to build a clinic for you with the budget $50,000.” Both Dr. Chang and I knew that was impossible.

 

The only option I had after 2 months trying was to find another alternative. In the end of February 1996, I went to An-Hwei Provincial hospital for a favor.  The chief doctor gave 3 known medicines in China with each medicine consists of 3 months dosages. I had to treat my self as white mouse to see if one of those three medicines will work for me. I made my way back to U.S. trying one medicine at time. Among the 3, two had serious side effect. I gave them up.  The oral Ganbonin showed no sign of serious side effects.

I went back to the States with Herb ChineseGanbonin. It helped me for 4 years and it could also kill you.

I don’t know how many patient in Taiwan or China are taking Ganbonin
(Ganbonin capsules (Chinese natural medicine for type B hepatitis and type B hepatic virus carriers) IMHO, since 1996 I contacted Ganbonin maker, and asked if they have applied to US FDA for approval and marketing. There has never been an answer from the company. It is very apparent that they could not provide any convincing scientific data of experiment in medical fields that they could not get FDA approval.  However, in India, Ganbonin medicine is allowed for marketing because there is loose regulation and yet there is great demand of HB population (possible 100 millions) due to the consideration of the lowest price. In any case, I like to spend little bit time to elaborate this medicine. After all, Gamboling had help me in the 4 year transition period until I found Epivir.

Pro: No side effect in your body had been found through the four years. I had not experienced any headache stomach up set loss appetite or some thing like that. In stead, I can eat any thing what I like. The periodic check up showed POT and GOT turned to stay normal level. The AFP RATIO also turn to normal in a way that you thought you are going to beat the odds.  If you think you are on your way toward recovery, than you have been misled by those figure. Pay attention to the following Con.

Con.  For a period 6 month to one year period, the Platelet count is gradually reduced from 80 to 75 65 60 and even 50. I don’t know too much about the smear test of the blood. One thing I am sure that the blood is getting thinner in the color and in its reality I was feeling chilly in cold weather than most of ordinary people. When you woke up in the morning, there was blood staine on pillow case. You know for sure that was bleeding from your teeth and nose. Scared or worried? Yes.  When I went to see Dr. Chen with PT dropped under 40. She immediately ordered me to stop Ganbonin for one week. She said it reached to dangerous level that I supposed I might die out of liver failure.
When I went to have blood check after stopping Ganbonin  the POT and GPT raised to the worst than previous abnormal level. I had to resume taking Gamboling and have POT & GOT controlled  within the normal level.
The PT count after stop Ganbonin increased back to 75. It is not normal but tolerable by the doctor. This stops and resume for 3 times. I know that I cannot count on this medicine for a long period until Dr. Chen told me my heath was getting worsening. The most shocking news was that in 10/1996 Dr.Chen was almost certain that I might have small liver cancer that I had to do something immediately some thing like liver transplantation. 

I immediate called my son who was an exchange student from Berkeley studying in Tokyo University and made appointment with Prof. Makuuchi on the next week Wednesday. I arranged the flight the next day for a consulting trip to Tokyo in 11/1997
