I was unemployed

When I was unemployed, I went to networking meetings. Every week someone would present a workshop of ways to get more interviews to get in touch with people who could hire me or who knew someone who could hire me, to get a job. There were always accompanying amazing stories of people who had used these methods and had met with incredible success. I tried all of them, and none of them worked for me.

When I was a salesman, I read books and listened to speakers who told me that if I would do such-and-such, my sales would increase so-much. And they never did.

I have learned that methods work for people whom they work for, and unfortunately they don't seem to work for people whom they don't work for.

People who claim to have The Way should be avoided, unless they have a clear way for us to find out for ourselves if what they say is true without having to invest large sums of money. My dad told me several times that the definition of an expert is a has-been drip under pressure. People who share ideas toward getting to good places and who don't claim that theirs is the only way are of value. We should always try to learn what good, intelligent people think. We should all try to learn from each other. And we should not discount results because someone's methods to attain those results don't work for us.

2. When we think we need to "fix" our lives, we should not look for, nor believe someone's 4 Steps to Happiness or Six Ways to the Good Life, or any such. I'm in favor of enjoying such books, articles, shows, or whatever, and we can use whatever we find of worth from them in becoming better, but we cannot overcome all our problems in a weekend or by reading a popular book. Fixing our lives is of course the purpose of life, and it takes an entire life to be successful at it.

3. Unless you're a teenager working for a fast-food restaurant, you don't want to work where the boss or your immediate supervisor thinks he has The Way for you to do your job, and you should not put up with any such attitude.

We might be able to figure out better ways to attain a particular result, and we might even be able to figure out better results to try to attain.reishi A boss who micromanages is shooting himself in the foot and is causing serious problems for the company. He should be fired by this afternoon at the latest.
