The book made me smile

I've been tough on Danielle Steel in recent reviews, but this book was simply beautiful. I loved the story line, and how she developed it, and she has obviously worked on her tendency towards repetition. The book made me smile, and it also made me cry. It seemed to end abruptly about midway through on a sad note, and a new story began with new characters. I wondered at that point whether this was to be two novels in one, but it later became clear that the two stories were related. I can't say any more than than without spoiling it for someone who hasn't read it yet.

Bill and Jenny are a couple from vastly different backgrounds, who meet twice by happenstance (or destiny) and fall in love. Theirs is a not an easy life. Jenny has a tremendously demanding career in the fashion industry, and Bill has recently left the family law firm to become an Episcopal minister. Circumstances take both of them to Wyoming, and a much simpler life than the one that they knew in New York, where they met, but a happy life just the same. And then ...

Bob owns a publishing company in NY, and Lillibet is a young Amish girl who has written a wonderful book, which she submits for publication with no expectations. A series of events brings them together, and just when something terrible happens that makes the reader think, "Oh no, not again, Danielle!" the story brings us a happy (if not a little unrealistic) ending.

I thoroughly enjoyed this gorgeously-rendered book. Bravo, Danielle Steel!
