The photo of Gen. Hu is mostly correct. I was one of the "little solders" under his command during the two battles in Quemen. It was not that of Gen. Sun, whom I also have his image in my mind. You must have overlooked when you mentioned somewhere in your article that 1949 was "the end of the war against Japan."
Very touching writing. We were pulled into the unfortunate war and greatly suffered in it, which was out of our control and was not what we asked for. Please do not take us (little solders) as a shooting target if readers are not happy with any present-day politics in Taiwan. We gave our golden years of young age to "the country" but even did not earn 5 cents reward. The Chiangs owe us more than to the world.
