The church, as a term used here, does not mean a building topped with a cross where marriages and funerals take place. Instead, we are talking about a group of Christians. Christians are expected to form a group and unite together.
After Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, his disciples established the church. They were worshipers and followers of Jesus Christ. They reviewed his story, practiced what he said, and told more people about this new idea in the world. Two thousand years have passed since then. Today the world is entirely different, but the church is still the same. It still remembers the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the leader of the church. As all soldiers in a legion follow their commander so they can fight as one cohesive group, all Christians are united in one. In the church, all people are brothers and sisters, the children of a common heavenly father.
It is a duty of any Christian to participate in the activities of the church. The church is an important place to practice the word of God. In the church, Christians serve each other because Jesus washed the feet of disciples during the last supper, and forgive the wrongdoings of others because God also forgives their sins. It is also a duty to join an assembly to worship every Sunday, the day when Jesus Christ was resurrected. Christians gather solemnly every Sunday because Jesus suffered and died for their sins.
For a healthy church assembly, Christians should respect the leadership of the church. The clergy should be considered as the representatives of God on earth. It is a general rule that Christians should accept the teachings of the clergy and take their instructions into account seriously, or else Christians appear rebellious to God.
Everyone has gifts. The church needs people to offer their abilities to service to Christ. Moreover, it is a great privilege for Christians to be able to do something for the church. As Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Christians also have obligations to support the church financially. In the mind of a true believer, all material richness is provided by God, so it is proper to give back in return. In the Bible, people are required to tithe, that is, to offer one-tenth of their incomes. Many Christians give even more to the church and charities.
Only in the church, a Christian knows many witnesses of Christianity. Only in the church, a Christian acquires more knowledge of the Bible. Only in the church, a Christian preserves his or her faith, a fervent heart for worshiping Jesus Christ. A Christian should never stop attending activities of the church.
