一、 考查 why not的 口語用法 　　
why not 在口語中主要有以下用法。 　　
1. 表示同意或贊成，意為：好的；可以呀；為什麼不可以呢。如： 　　
A：May I go with you? 我可以和你一起去嗎? 　　
B：Why not? 可以呀。 　　
A：Let’s eat out tonight. 今晚我們出去吃吧。 　　
B：Yes， why not? 那好啊。 　　
A：I wonder if I could make a living by writing. 我不知靠寫作能否維持生計。 　　
B：Why not? 那可以呀。 　　
2. 表示勸誘、建議或命令，意為：……怎麼樣；為什麼不……呢。
如：Why not ask someone else? 問問別人怎麼樣? 　　
Why not go there at once? 為什麼不馬上去呢? 　　
A：My girl-friend is in a bad mood. 我的女朋友情緒不好。 　　
B：Why not give her some flowers? 為什麼不送她一些花呢?
 　　
3. 用來詢問原因（有時表示一種不可理解的心情），意為：為什麼；為什麼不……呢。如： 　　
A：He isn’t going to see her off at the station. 他不準備去車站送她。 　　B：Why not? 為什麼? 　　
A：You should not smoke. 你不該抽煙。 　　
B：Why not? 為什麼? 　　
A：Don’t touch it. 別碰它。 　　
B：Why not? 為什麼? 　　
A：It’s hot! You’ll burn yourself. 那是燙的，你會燙著的。 　　
4. 表示堅持自己的觀點、態度或做法，意為：為什麼不呢。如： 　　
A：Are you really going to sue them? 你真的要控告他們嗎?

二、 考查 why not 後的動詞用何形式 　　
why not 後習慣上只接動詞原形，不能接帶 to 不定式或現在分詞。
如： 　　
何不靜觀其結果呢? 　　
誤：Why not just to wait and see what happens? 　　
正：Why not just wait and see what happens? 　　
你一臉倦容，怎麼不休假呢? 　　
誤：You’re looking tired. Why not taking a holiday? 　　
正：You’re looking tired. Why not take a holiday? 　　
注：在一定的語境中，有時why not後可省略動詞原形。如： 　　
A：Let’s meet at the station. 我們在車站見面吧。 　　
B：Why not at the hotel?在飯店不行嗎? 　　
句中的why not後可視為省略了動詞wait。 　　 　　
三、 考查 why not 句式的結構形式 　　
why not 後習慣上只接動詞原形，不能接句子，也不能用“why didn’t+動詞原形”“why don’t+動詞原形”這樣的不倫不類的句子。
如： 　　
為什麼不等到冬季大賤賣時再買一件新外衣呢? 　　
誤：Why don’t wait till the winter sales to buy a new coat? 　　
正：Why not wait till the winter sales to buy a new coat? 　　 　　

四考查 why not 的隱含時態 　　
按英語習慣，why not ... 結構只用於提出建議，不用於表示責備，即只用於指將來的情況，而不用於指過去情況。
如： 　　
我那時是能借錢給你的。你為什麼沒有向我借? 　　
誤：I could have lent you the money. Why not ask me? 　　
正：I could have lent you the money. Why didn’t you ask me? 　　
我喊你的名字的時候，你為什麼不來? 　　
誤：Why not come when I called your name? 　　
正：Why didn’t you come when I called your name? 　　 　　

五.用於某些特殊表達中 　　
如用於 I don’t see why not，其意為“沒問題”“好呀”。
如： 　　
— Can we go to the park? 我們去公園吧。 　　
— I don’t see why not. 好呀。

　　1. turn about 轉身，向後轉
　　The colonel ordered the troops to turn about. 上校命令部隊向後轉。
　　2. turn against 轉而反對，與……反目
　　They tried to turn the students against their teachers. 他們設法讓學生起來反對老師。
　　3. turn （a）round （1）轉身，調頭 （2）轉向另一面，使好轉
