１９６３年夏天出生的多莉艾莫絲（Tori Amos）是美國樂壇的女鬼才
無論填詞　譜曲　編曲　樂器　製作樣樣都會
而且還有一副晶瑩剔透　非常具有感染力的嗓音
１９９１年秋天　她在英國發行首張個人EP〔Me And A Gun／我跟一把槍〕
同名單曲為首支主打
不過電台似乎比較B面歌曲〔Silent All These Years／沉默這些年〕

於是１１月便以此曲為第二主打
隔年初（１月在英國　２月在美國）　以Adult Alternative Pop/Rock樂風為主的首張大碟／小地震>推出後
美國直接以為首支單曲 （春天發行）
這是一首以鋼琴為伴奏　隨著情緒轉變唱腔的巴洛克流行抒情歌曲
多莉艾莫絲獨特的詮釋相當令人深刻
此曲成為她首支打進英國榜的歌曲　得到＃５１　
１９９２年８月在英倫重新發行　則是＃２６
美國方面則打進現代搖滾榜＃２７
後來被不少歌手重唱過
譬如愛爾蘭性格歌手西妮歐康諾（Sinead O’Connor） , K.D. Lang等等
亞洲方面最有名的就是王菲翻唱的國語／粵語版<冷戰>
不過我以一直比較喜歡多莉艾莫絲的原版
