１９８３年１月，英國流行雙人組舞韻（Eurythmics）推出第二張大碟［Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)／美夢(由此構成)］（RCA唱片發行）

由團員大衛·A·史都華（David A. Stewart）Adam Williams，Robert Crash製作，評價良好．

標題曲［Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)／美夢(由此構成)］為專輯第四單曲，１９８３年１月發行，由團員安妮藍妮克絲（Annie Lennox）＋大衛·A·史都華創作，

藍妮克絲和史都華在先前的樂團「遊客」（The Tourists）解散後，組成Eurythmics ，並創作了［Sweet Dreams ( Are Made of This)］。

儘管兩人後感情也分手，但事業仍然繼續合作。

據藍妮克絲說，這首歌的歌詞反映The Tourists解散後她那段不愉快的時光，當時安妮她覺得他們“活在夢裡”，他們所追求的一切都永遠不會實現。

安妮形容這首歌唱的是：「看看我們現在的處境，還能更糟嗎？我當時感覺非常脆弱。這首歌表達我當時的感受：絕望和虛無主義。」

史都華覺得歌詞太過壓抑，於是加上了「hold your head up, moving on／抬起頭，繼續前進」這句，讓歌曲更積極向上。

談到“有些人想利用你……有些人想被虐待”這句歌詞時，安妮說：“人們以為這首歌是關於性或虐戀的，但它根本不是那個意思。”

關於歌名，她說：“顯然，這是英國流行樂壇最容易被誤解的歌詞。人們以為我唱的是‘甜蜜的夢是用奶酪做的’。”
