１９９９年１１月，瑞典四人流行團體王牌（Ace of Base）推出首張精選輯［Singles of the 90s／90年代單曲］（Edel-Mega／Polydor唱片發行），但只在歐洲、亞洲和非洲發行。

當樂團開始製作第四張錄音室專輯［Da Capo］時，唱片公司聯繫他們想發行一張選輯。

王牌的主要作曲家Jonas Berggren最初拒絕這項提議，聲稱單曲集的想法還為時過早。

最終，樂團做出讓步，推出由四位樂團成員共同創作的三首歌曲，分別是［Hallo Hallo］、［Cest La Vie］和［Love in December］。

北美版［Greatest Hits］於隔年２０００年４月由Arista唱片發行，僅收錄三首新曲目中的［Cest La Vie］。

［Singles of the 90s／90年代單曲］由Denniz Pop製作，樂評出色．

加上沒有額外宣傳，專輯未能進入美國告示牌專輯排行榜，

發行首週銷量不到 5,000 張。這是第一張未能進入專輯排行榜的王牌專輯。

王牌以［Greatest Hits］履行了Arista唱片與合約義務並結束彼此關係。

首支主打是１９９９年１０月推出的［Cest la Vie (Always 21)／這就是人生(永遠21歲)］

由Jonas Berggren創作，由 JPR Productions 的Jimmy James，S. Pettersen，Sig Rossby製作成一首歐式流行曲，編曲帶有Motown復古味，節奏輕快．

歌曲受到好評，《AllMusic》編輯 Bryan Buss 將這首歌描述為「年輕的心」。

瑞典報紙 《Expressen》 寫道，「聽起來王牌又回到了童年」。‘樂團的魅力在「Cest la Vie (Always 21)」這樣的歌曲中表現得最好。’
