這回她決定轉向靈魂樂之根, 錄製一張純R&B專輯

達絲蒂來到美國曼菲斯的錄音室灌製第五張大碟,名字就取為［Dusty in Memphis／達絲蒂在孟斐斯］（Atlantic／Philips出版）

由Jerry Wexler, Arif Mardin, Tom Dowd製作

專輯選在１９６９年１月推出，登上美國專輯榜＃９９．

１９６９年,  達絲蒂推出總數第四單曲［The Windmills of Your Mind／你心中的風車］

此曲由法國Michel Legrand作曲，

美國Alan＆Marilyn Bergman作英文詞，歌名［The Windmills of Your Mind］

Eddy Marnay創作法文版歌詞，歌名［Les Moulins de mon cœur／我心中的磨坊］

［The Windmills of Your Mind］最早在在電影［托馬斯克隆事件／The Thomas Crown Affair］中出現，由Noel Harrison主唱，榮獲奧斯卡最佳原創歌曲獎。

大西洋唱片公司總裁Jerry Wexler 聽到［Windmills of Your Mind］，支持達絲蒂在她的專輯［Dusty in Memphis］中錄製這首歌，克服歌手的強烈抵制；

史賓絲菲爾的朋友兼後來經理人Vicki Wickham說：「達絲蒂總是說她討厭此曲，因為她無法認同歌詞。」

達絲蒂版被製作成一首白人靈魂／流行抒情曲, 　達絲蒂的沙啞嗓音詮釋輕柔，帶有波動感

１９６９年４月，Dusty 在孟菲斯發布的第三首美國單曲── A面［I Don’t Want to Hear It Anymore］，B 面［The Windmills of Your Mind］。

然而，Wexler準備在［風車］贏得奧斯卡最佳歌曲獎後將其作為A 面進行宣傳，

１９６９年５月美國《告示牌》雜誌才首次登上Hot 100 排行榜，最後拿到第３１位。

在錢櫃（Cash Box）單曲榜上，升至第２２位。
