以先後擔任傑佛森飛船（Jefferson Airplane）與傑佛遜星船（Jefferson Starship ）的歌曲作者與主唱聞名

１９６２年曾推出兩首單曲，反應冷淡

１９６５年加入傑佛森飛船，才走紅歌壇

１９７８年，馬丁離開傑佛遜星船，仍以個人歌手留在EMI唱片

１９８０年３月，３８歲的巴林推出首張個人大碟［Balin］

由John Hug製作，樂評出色

首支主打是５月發行的［Hearts／心］，由 Jesse Barish譜寫
