１９８０年　美國迪斯可女王唐娜桑瑪（Donna Summer）跳槽Geffen唱片

發行兩張專輯  雖然成績不錯, 但與７０年代的迪斯可風光時期已無法相提並論

由於法律訴訟　桑瑪仍欠前東家卡薩布蘭卡唱片一張片約

於是１９８３年　她與製作人Michael Omartian合作大碟［She Works Hard for the Money］ （卡薩布蘭卡唱片已被寶麗金集團收購, 後者安排在旗下的Mercury唱片發行）, 以完成合約義務

結果專輯跟同名單曲成為唐娜在１９８０年代最成功的作品

因此當桑瑪回到Geffen籌備下張大碟時, Michael Omartian被要求繼續掌舵

１９８４年９月　３５歲半的唐娜推出第十二張專輯［Cats Without Claws／無爪貓］

歌曲主要由她跟Michael Omartian創作

原本桑瑪想以［Oh Billy ,Please］為首支主打, 但被公司老板David Geffen與高層拒絕

結果選了翻唱曲［There Goes My Baby］

原版是１９５９年美國 doo-wop＋R&B/soul團體The Drifters所唱

當時登上美國Billboard單曲榜亞軍（R&B榜冠軍）與錢櫃單曲榜冠軍

桑瑪版是首電子流行曲, 在輕快的節拍間, 唐娜豐沛的嗓音從輕吟到盡情詮釋,演繹有層次感

MV則以第二次世界大戰爆發後一對時運不濟的夫妻

丈夫從軍, 妻子等待的焦急心境

桑瑪現實世界的丈夫Bruno Roberts便擔任男主角

只是這回反應不如預期, ［There Goes My Baby］只拿到Billboard單曲榜＃２１

成為１９７８年來第一次首單沒打入Top１０

副榜──黑人榜也只升到＃２０

國際表現也不盡理想：加拿大／荷蘭＃３１　澳洲＃５２　英國＃９９

連帶大碟也只升到＃４０　至今在美賣出３０萬張, 也是唐娜成名以來最低銷售

此後桑瑪的事業便明顯走下坡, 直到１９８０年代末的東山再起
