II. Course Policies1. Description The course is designed to meet the academic needs of students by teaching them how to prepare for the reading materials of college-level. The 2. Evaluation a. Attendance (10%) It is necessary to be punctual in the class. Regular attendance and voluntary participation in the class and discussion are cordially invited. There are 5 times of roll calls to be counted and scored, each of them is 2 % of course grade, which means all together students’ attendance of the class will be 10 % of course grade. If you miss more than 3-4 classes, your grade and reading progress will be so seriously affected that you would confront the problem of failing this course. 2 times of being recorded as arriving late is considered as 1 absence. However, the best policy is to be punctual and well-prepared to discuss the assigned reading materials and handouts. It is advisable for any student with special medical problem who informs the teacher of his/her health situation regularly. b. Script-Performance ( 20%) The class is divided into 10 groups (each group around 5-6 persons) for the purpose of giving a script performance of Sense and Sensibility, which is required to be demonstrated around 10 minutes for each group. In order to get a higher score, it would be better to (1) introduce the background information of each setting, (2) memorize the scripts in advance, (3) prepare some important stage properties, and (4) response to teacher’s questions. c. Dictation Tests (10 %) They are based on the script of d. Midterm and Final Exams (30 x 2 %) The presences in the mid-term and final examinations (each 30 %) are compulsive; both of these exams are all based on the standard textbook College Reading 2. e.
