How are you? I am so happy that you are six years old and wish you a happy birthday! On Facetime, your mommy prepared a cake, put on six candles, and then lead by your younger sister, everyone sang a happy birthday song to you; first the English version, then the Chinese version. When you blew out all the candles in one breath, everyone applauded and cheers you happily. Do you like the gift from grandma and grandpa - Space Shuttle Lego? It can be transformed into three completely different models, which are quite challenging. I hope you enjoy the fun of completing it.
Maybe you will think, why celebrate a birthday? Your birthday is the first day you come to this home. You are the eldest, i.e. the first baby was born, so everyone is looking forward to receiving your arrival and valuing it the most. Your mommy and daddy have no prior experience of taking care of children. Although they have tried their best to prepare beforehand, your coming has brought a lot of unexpected busyness, causing everyone to be in chaos in the beginning. In order to take care of you and care for you, they have mobilized all resources, including grandma and grandpa who have participated in this process and witnessed your birth and growth.
Before you were born, you had been living in Mommy’s tummy for forty weeks, eating and drinking, sleeping, and discharging all in there. From a small cell that is invisible to the naked eye, grows into a seven-pound baby. In this long two hundred plus days, replying on the nutrients and protection provided by Mommys body, you was able to grow up safely and smoothly. However, for you, she can be said to have suffered a lot.
In the starting three months, because of your presence, her body changed. She often felt nausea, vomiting, and had no appetite. But she always tried to overcome the feeling of discomfort and forced her to at as much as she could . Even so, her weight had not increased much. Before you were born, she only gained twelve pounds, while you already weighed seven pounds. It is obvious that most of the nutrients she absorbed during her pregnancy were converted into you.
You were growing up day after day in the belly of Mommy, and grew into a head and limbs. When Mommy sent us your first ultrasound video, we were so excited. Later, you became more and more active, and you were busy in all kinds of motion including stretching, kicking, turning, and even hiccupping all day long that made mommy restless for any moment. In particular, she needed to go to bathroom often because her bladder was crushed by you, and it is almost impossible to rest well day and night. She also carried you to work every day until a week before the birth. All mommy did was just for you, isnt she very tired?
More hard work was still behind. On the day you arrived, It took mommy eight hours to naturally give birth to you. But when you were born, your whole body turned yellow, and the doctor discovered immediately that you had a problem of jaundice. For treatment, you were requested to stay in the hospitals incubator to expose to blue light. Mommy was discharged from the hospital in two days, but you had been kept in the hospital for nearly a week. She still visited the hospital every day. Having been not only very tired and weak, but also very worried and anxious, she was determined to help you through the difficulties personally. Grandpa had witnessed her mood of loving you at that time, do you understand?
After you were discharged from hospital, Mommy personally breast fed by following the feeding schedule every day. Grandpa and grandma also took part in shifts with her, so she could rest. Therefore, when she was free, especially in the middle of the night, she would preserve her milk by squeezing it up to the spare bottles for cold storage. In our shifts we just warmed it up before feeding you. Sometimes we saw her sitting on the sofa, pumping, and falling asleep - it’s so tiring! Because breast milk is considered more nutritious than milk it will give you more resistance to germs. Thats why your mommy continued to feed your breast milk no matter how busy or tired she was, until you are one and a half years old. No wonder you had been a healthy baby, rarely sick, even quickly recovered from cold, Of course, mommys tender loving care is also indispensable.
I remember that your only serious illness occurred approximately at the age of three. At that time, you had a cold and cough, turned into a long lasting fever. Mom and Dad took you to the emergency room in the middle of the night and found that you had developed symptoms of bronchitis and pneumonia. They kept taking care of you restlessly for a week or so, and cooperated with the auntie doctor to help you defeat the infection. Finally the crisis was resolved and your health was restored. To date grandpa still cant forget the look of their pairs of red and anxious eyes.
You were very fat in your babyhood. There was sausage-like muscles accumulate on your arms and calves, and you grew very fast. Although Mommy was trying to eat a lot for feeding you, but she just got thinner. Thats why everyone said that her muscle was all transferred to you. Because you were overweight, you could not turn over yourself, and you could not learn to crawl. As the saying goes: "One, look; two, listen; three, look up; four, grip; five, grab; six, turn over; seven, sit; eight, crawl; nine, teeth, ten, pinch and one year old, stand alone." Unfortunately, you skipped both the steps of turning and crawling. Although you learned to walk later, but until you was four or five years old, you still didn’t bend your knees well when you was walking, running or jumping. As a result, you stumbled quite easily and your legs had bruises all over. That made your mommy worry for a long time.
In grandpas hometown Taiwan, there is a folk lulluby called "Rock Baby Song", and its melody is very beautiful. When you were very young, grandma used to sing this song to make you fall asleep. You seemed to enjoy it, listening and listening, then fell asleep in a short time. Although your mommy was not fluent in Taiwanese, after listening for a while she picked it up rather quickly, and often made humming to you:
"Infants and infants are sleepy, one inch larger after one night; Infants and infants are cherished, one foot larger after one night. Rock my baby at sunset, holding and staring, The child is my heart and soul, and I will protect you from cold."
This song describes the mood of the mother to pamper the baby as own flesh and blood. Your mommy takes care of you in every possible way, giving you food and clothing. Watching you grow up day by day is her greatest comfort. Now she works hard every day to make money (so does your daddy), to fulfill all the needs of your eating, wearing, using and going to school. Not only on the birthday, Grandpa hopes that you can always appreciate mommy for her hard work in giving birth to you and raising you, cherish all that is hard to get; dont let her worry or make her angry; be a good child with a correct, healthy and bright attitude. If you can do this, it would be the best reward for Mommy, and the best birthday present for yourself. Grandpa must give you a "Thumb-Up"!
