１９６３年７月出生的美國創作歌手芳達夏普（Vonda Shepard）從１９８７年受到歌壇矚目
陸續發行數張專輯, 但始終未獲得太多迴響。

１９９７年, 電視影集［Ally McBeal／艾莉的異想世界］的創作者David E. Kelley在某次夜店看見芳達演出, 留下印象, 與她簽約, 以本名擔任片中歌手角色。

由於［艾莉的異想世界］推出相當熱門, 連帶讓夏普受到歡迎

夏普為影集灌錄數張原聲帶專輯：

首張是１９９８年５月推出的［Songs from Ally McBeal］（550 Music／Sony Music Soundtrax發行）

大碟收錄的皆為芳達在影集演唱之歌曲

四首原創, 其它為１９６０年代經典翻唱

１２首歌曲由芳達製作, 兩首由她跟Michael Landau製作。

首支主打為主題曲［Searchin My Soul／尋找我的靈魂］

由夏普與Paul Gordon譜寫,

這是１９９２年芳達第二張專輯［The Radical Light］ 中的歌曲, 原本是福音-藍調搖滾／流行曲風

１９９８年版被芳達製作成一首流行搖滾,

節拍輕快, 夏普的嗓音扎實有力, 獲得好評。

［Searchin My Soul］獲得電台強力放送, 由於沒有推出實體單曲, 導致無法打入Billboard單曲榜

不過登上副榜－成人當代榜＃２２。

電台播放轉嫁到大碟銷售　加上影集的熱門, 讓［Songs from Ally McBeal］原聲帶登上美國Billboard專輯榜＃７（1998年終#72）

賣出一百多萬張, 拿到白金唱片.

［Searchin My Soul］國際亦成功：英國＃１０　西班牙冠軍　加拿大＃６　澳大利亞＃８２
