來台不到4個月…侏儒河馬「小傷口惡化」今凌晨離世　生前呆萌模樣曝

2024年11月19日才從新加坡動物園Mandai Wildlife Group，來到臺北市立動物園的雄性侏儒河馬「Thabo」，因小傷口惡化，於今天（10日）凌晨4點22分經獸醫確診判定死亡，令多月以來照顧Thabo的照養團隊難過不已。

臺北市立動物園表示，侏儒河馬Thabo去年11月自新加坡動物園來台，歷經1個月的檢疫期後來到非洲動物區。

Thabo生性謹慎膽小又挑食，初來乍到，仰賴保育員們悉心照養，無論是食材或是互動減敏，一群奶爸們協助Thabo從陌生到熟悉，一切正逐漸步入軌道，適應臺北的環境之際。

沒想到，保育員今年2月發現Thabo右腳側邊出現小傷口，照養團隊便開始積極投以口服藥，但牠總是怕藥味拒食，每日爲牠清創治療時亦閃躲害怕，後續身上仍出現多發腫包，只得持續密集清創，以及為查明與確認原因的抽血檢視動物狀況。

為了讓Thabo早日康復，保育員採取了各種美味食材變化給與Thabo來補充能量和體力，然Thabo的食慾卻不見起色，養分吸收不良，身體日漸虛弱，加上近月遇到北臺灣數度起起伏伏的特急冬季寒流與日夜溫差大，讓從小適應新加坡穩定溫暖氣候的Thabo在治療過程雪上加霜。

園方指出，Thabo進食沒起色而持續的虛弱狀態，讓醫療照養團隊於3月9日開始為牠安排緊急加護小組，24小時不眠不休地給予密切加護。

然而Thabo血液監控數值持續不佳，白血球高、肌肉指數高、血糖低，後續肝腎指數亦上升。

遺憾地，侏儒河馬Thabo今天凌晨在眾多保育員、區長、獸醫及獸醫助理們陪伴下離世。 經緊急聯繫臺大獸醫專業學院分子暨比較病理團隊協助解剖，綜整結果顯示Thabo的營養不良加上循環障礙、感染，導致健康狀況每況愈下，最終未能戰勝病情。

園方提到，大動物的醫療不易，加上動物不示弱的偽裝無法如人一般的言語溝通，向來是對照養團隊最大的挑戰，無論在抽血、治療，甚至希望像人一般能給予輸液皆為不可能的任務。

動物園強調，侏儒河馬的血緣交換是歷經多時的期盼，面對動物的驟逝感到無比難過。在全球物種整合保育的趨勢下，在地域內與域外機構間的合作（如保護區與動物園或保育中心），或域外動物園、

保育機構間的保種行動，為維持動物族群健康與遺傳多樣性，尤其在全球瀕危物種的保育合作上，動物們的調度與照養仍會進行。謝謝侏儒河馬Thabo陪伴我們的短暫時光。
