--- Summary ----(Claire) Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this very interesting book! Below is my summary and thoughts to share with you:
The author leads the readers to learn how to expand from limited life experiences to infinity, so that we can live in unconditional love and joy. This book gives us an opportunity to look at the world from a different perspective and think about the essence of life. Besides the world created by the ego and the voice of the mind, is there a deeper value of life that allows us to live in happiness, love, peace, and eternity?
The content of the book can be summed up in three key points: -參 Who am I? -臣服Surrender (learning how to let go) - Living life in unconditional happiness
1. You are that underlying awareness. 2. Learn to control your inner world 3. It’s impossible to control the outside world, so focus on controlling your inner world. 4. See pain as an opportunity to free yourself. When things trigger your negative emotions, it is an opportunity for you to heal yourself. From this point of view, if you dont have lingering emotions when dealing with the problem, things will be resolved naturally. As the Master said: face the problem, accept the problem , deal with the problem, let go of the problem聖嚴法師,當遇到問題的處理的心法: 面對他、接受他、處理他、放下他 5. Return from the subject to the object, regard yourself as the soul, and experience life through this body; the soul wants to experience all things, the “good” and the “bad”, feel the love and pain, feel the light and darkness. Without labeling our experiences, you can truly be free. 6. Looking at everything from the height of the universe, you will no longer label everything as “good” or “bad”, you just let everything flow by and enjoy every experience, tolerate people with different opinions, and let go of past trauma 7. Every time you encounter painful things, you have to remind yourself that you have encountered the boundary of restrictive thinking, just like a dog touching his electronic fence. December Meeting Wrap-Up Today Florence’s daughter Claire created a powerful and positive presentation of our book, The Untethered Soul. This book combined with Clair’s leadership offered each of us simple yet profound answers to the questions we have about our lives and what it is that matters the most to us. Claire’s leadership of this book was transformative and encouraged each of us to consider our relationships with the world and ourselves. Emma and Gloria shared their idea of inner freedom and the importance of accepting yourself for who you are as well as meditation. Learning who you are is not something that comes from others. It is not something that you can get from someone else. Nobody else can give you inner peace. You have to find it within yourself. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t seek help from others but ultimately, the peace that you’re looking for has to come from within. Lily talked about how she tried to escape parts of her life but how having her dog has helped her to be present. Lydia talked about the mantra’s she has used for herself when she was going through a challenging time in her life and Emma also recounted moments when she responded to difficulties by centering herself. This book and last month’s book has really taken the group into a different direction, one that is tapping into traditions of meditation and mindfulness and it has really been a positive change in the group. Claire was a real model for us and both she and Emma encouraged us to develop consciousness. Claire gave us powerful examples in her own life and marriage of how that can enable us all to dwell in the present moment and let go of painful thoughts and memories that keep us from achieving happiness and self-realization. It was a really rewarding meeting and a big thank you to Cathy and Hendry for coming along today and adding their valuable voices to the group. Once again thank you to Lily for facilitating our participants from the USA, Switzerland and Spain.
