2024.06.12.下午1點54分，在南投溪頭園區驚傳一起失蹤死亡案件，年約80多歲的陳姓老翁和太太入園健行，兩人各自去上廁所後，相約會合，但婦人遲遲等不到人，嚇得趕緊報案，於是警、消大動員搜索，於今天稍早10點多，發現陳翁的遺體，後續交由警方處理。
這起案件發生在溪頭園區，當時陳翁和太太於昨天上午一起健行，在園區內大學池附近上廁所，並相約廁所門口會合，可是婦人遲遲等不到先生，隨即尋找並請求園區協助，邊到溪頭派出所報案，後續鹿谷消防分隊抵達，加上社團法人台灣偵搜犬協會支援，連夜進行搜索。
今天上午鹿谷消防隊群呼義消集結說明現場情況、整備搜救裝備及分配人員任務，於早上8點26分派遣3名警消、11名義消、1名志工，行動分為四組人員依據有可能的路線進行搜索，最終於10點17分在「森林探索區」最上方找到陳翁，倒臥在步道旁的邊坡下方，已無生命跡象，後續交由竹山警方處理。
