囊底路的設計啟於1929年美國的都市計畫中所提到的鄰里單元原則之一，這樣的道路設計因為只有一個出入口，所以可以大大減少穿越性的交通，也可以保持住宅環境的寧靜，而在囊底路的地區常常也是一個小單位的社區，中間囊底也是周邊居民可以聚會的庭園廣場，大家藉此也可以培養情誼、敦親睦鄰。囊底路的設計有三種類型，第一種主要分布在光華里，屬於簡單迴路型，也是基本型的囊底路；第二種主要分布在光榮里，屬於改良過M型迴路型態；第三種則多分佈在光明里，屬於是放射狀的迴路行囊底路，這些的道路規劃設計也形成了中興新村獨有的特色元素。
