According to information published by the Navy, the two new vessels – CNS Dongguan and CNS Anqing – have recently been delivered to two destroyer squadrons and have taken part in combat exercises in the East China Sea with other ships.
Before them, eight Type 055 destroyers had been commissioned to the North Sea Fleet and South Sea Fleet, acting as flagships of several destroyer squadrons.
Developed and built by China State Shipbuilding Corp, the Type 055 is the countrys most powerful generation of guided-missile destroyer class.
It has a displacement of more than 12,000 metric tons and is equipped with new types of air-defense, missile-defense, anti-ship, anti-submarine, and land-attack weapons.
The vessel has a total of 112 vertical launching cells capable of firing various kinds of missiles, including the nations long-range cruise missiles. Its firepower is believed to be double that of the Type 052D class, the largest and mightiest surface combatant in the PLA Navy before the Type 055.
The two newly commissioned vessels are assigned to the Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command.
The number of Chinas Type 055 10,000-ton-class destroyers has increased from eight to 10: Nanchang (Hull 101), Lhasa (Hull 102), Anshan (Hull 103), Wuxi (Hull 104), Dalian (Hull 105), Yanan (Hull 106), Zunyi (Hull 107), Xianyang (Hull 108), Dongguan (Hull 109) and Anqing (Hull 110).

The Dongguan and Anqing joined drills to accelerate integration into China’s joint combat system..
The Chinese Navy has recently tested its newest generation of warships, including two Type 055 missile destroyers, in a high-intensity live fire drill near Taiwan and the East China Sea.
People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), considered the world’s largest navy, with 234 warships and 167 support vessels, deployed the newly commissioned 13,200-ton (12,000-tonne) guided-missile destroyers in mid-March 2026..
Named Dongguan (Hull 109) and Anqing (Hull 110), the ships are the first of their kind to enter service with the Eastern Theater Command Navy that oversees the waters in the direction of Taiwan and the East China Sea.
.China debuted the two new destroyers on March 8. As per the official newspaper of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, the PLA Daily, the drill simulated heavy combat scenarios, including coordinated strikes against air and surface threats.
The two vessels are among the largest and most powerful destroyers in the world. According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) they were tested against fast-moving aerial targets under heavy electromagnetic interference, a scenario aimed to mimic modern electronic warfare environments.
The PLA Daily noted the ships would “accelerate their integration into the joint combat system” of the Eastern Theatre Command. “The newly commissioned Type 055 guided-missile destroyers Anqing (Hull 110) and Dongguan (Hull 109) recently formed a task group for the first time and sailed to a sea area to conduct live-fire training,” it added.
