美國獨立宣言 Published by Thomas Jefferson a statement adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, which announced that the thirteen American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as independent statesates of America. John Adams was a leader in pushing for independence, which was unanimously approved on July 2. A committee had already drafted the formal declaration, to be ready when Congress voted on independence. -Abolish, alter (v.) 廢止,改變 -Lame duck 跛鴨政權 an elected official who is approaching the end of his or her tenure, especially one whose successor has already been elected. -Remove sb. from office 罷免 -Amendment 修正案 a formal or official change made to a law, contract, constitution, or other legal document. It is based on the verb to amend, which means to change. Amendments can add, remove, or update parts of these agreements.
