My boss is a typical Gemini and changes his mind about every 2 minutes -- sometimes it is really ___ to be his subordinate.

後半句「it is ___ to be his subordinate」的 it 是虛主詞,意義上的主詞是 to be his subordinate 這件事。

To be his subordinate / frustrates / me.

(a) To be his subordinate (原來的主詞) is frustrating (to me).

(b) I (原來的受詞) feel/am frustrated at being his subordinate.

his ageing mother

an aspiring actor

a balding man

an abandoned car

an accredited university

advanced technology

dawn guo(dawnguo) 於 2014/11/20 03:28 回覆:

19. 多一個字就可以用你的答案:…to help me fall asleep

想請問第27題,答案為A,但是我選的是D,翻譯是否為『他要求小孩們做一些事情.....』,選擇D的原因是he ask (that)  children do tasks....。

French psychologist Alfred Binet (1859-1911) took a different approach from most other
psychologists of his day: He was interested in the workings of the (26) mind rather than the nature of mental illness. He wanted to find a way to measure the ability to think and reason, apart from education in any particular field. In 1905 he developed a test in which he (27) children do tasks such as follow commands, copy patterns, name objects, and put things in order or arrange them properly.

26. (A) contrary (B) normal (C) detective (D) mutual
27. (A) had (B) kept (C) wanted (D) asked

Dawn

Taking part couldn’t be (28) . All one has to do is say hello to 10 people on the day. However, in response to the (29) of this event, the concepts of fostering peace and harmony do not have to be confined to one day a year. 29. (A) aim (B) tone (C) key (D) peak
30. (A) push (B) keep (C) bring (D) make

In the fall of 1973, in an effort to bring attention to the conflict between Egypt and Israel, World Hello Day was born. The objective is to promote peace all over the world, and to (26) break down barriers between every nationality. Since then, World Hello Day—November 21st of every year— (27) has been observed by people in 180 countries.

28 格選 easier,是因為下一句「All one has to do is…」,很簡單、只要就好。

一、「We can ___ the spirit going by…」,keep 符合這用法「keep something v-ing」,push 則無。

Dawn

Brahma called a council of the gods to help him decide on a place to hide the divinity. The gods suggested that they hide it (23) in the earth or take it to the top of the highest mountain. But Brahma thought (24) would do because he believed humans would dig into the earth and climb every mountain, and eventually find it. So, the gods gave up.
23. (A) close (B) apart (C) deep (D) hard

補充:如果要說兩個建議可行,可以說 both would do / either would do

Dawn

The answer has to do with supply and demand. Being a rare natural resource, diamonds are (27) in supply. However, their demand is high because many people buy them to tell the world that they have money, (28) as conspicuous consumption in economics. In other words, the scarcity of goods is (29) causes humans to attribute value. If we (30) surrounded by an unending abundance of diamonds, we probably wouldn’t value them very much. Hence, diamonds carry a higher monetary value than water, even though we find more use for water.
27. (A) traded (B) weakened (C) limited (D) noticed
28. (A) term (B) termed (C) terms (D) was termed

(a) The scarcity of goods is the thing.

(b) This thing causes humans to attribute value.

(a)+(b)= The scarcity of goods is the thing which causes humans to attribute value.

= The scarcity of goods is what causes humans to attribute value.

(C) why

不過,這句子寫得怪怪的,不符「attribute X to Y  Y具有X性質」,句尾如果加上「to them (=the goods)」應該就完整了。

Because of this higher water content, it is easier for them to bruise.

Onions can be divided into two categories: fresh onions and storage onions. Fresh onions are available (21) in yellow, red and white throughout their season, March through August. They can be (22) identified by their thin, light-colored skin. Because they have a higher water content, they are typically sweeter and milder tasting than storage onions. This higher water content also makes (23) it easier for them to bruise. With its delicate taste, the fresh onion is an ideal choice for salads and other lightly-cooked dishes. Storage onions, on the other hand, are available August through April. (24) Unlike fresh onions, they have multiple layers of thick, dark, papery skin. They also have an (25) intense flavor and a higher percentage of solids. For these reasons, storage onions are the best choice for spicy dishes that require longer cooking times or more flavor.

The shirts come in three sizes.

The shirts are available in five colors.

The measurements of the shelves are in both inches and centimeters.

(23) make + it (虛受詞) + adj. + to verb (實受詞):使 to verb 這件事 如何

This higher water content /…makes / it / easier / for them (=fresh onions) / to bruise.

Dawn

Email:robert8252000@hotmail.com URL:URL

Green tea is also helpful for infection and damaged immune function.

除了我上次回答的改寫之外,至少也要加上一個詞 "...helpful for the treatment of infection and damaged immune system",以 for + noun 來表達目的。

Dawn

還有一個題目想請問老師,the woman did --- without hesitation. 選項A. so B. such C.as D.thus

答案是A。

When the hungry traveler saw the precious stone, he asked her to give it to him. The woman did ___ without hesitation.

My dad went to Harvard, and I did too.
後半句的 did,是 went to Harvard 的替代品。
so (adv.) 可以配合 do, does, did, 表示前面提到的動作。
The woman did so without hesitation.
= The woman gave it to him without hesitation.

Green tea is also helpful in fighting infection and repairing damaged immune system.

1. S + be helpful in + v-ing

2. S + be helpful + for 人 + to v

例 It would be helpful for me to see the damage myself.

3. S + be helpful + to 人

例 The booklet should be very helpful to parents of disabled children.
