誠實

If you want to see what real honesty is

look no further than the dog.

The dog doesn't give a damn for looking good

如果你想知道什麼是真正的誠實

就看看近旁的狗。

狗不會在乎外表好不好看

but will hunch the leg of the Queen’s mother

if it feels like it. The dog

doesn't care what the hell you think, it will

會對著皇后母親的腿弓起牠的背

只要牠感覺喜歡。狗

不在乎你想的什麼鬼東西，牠會

lick its balls in the presence of the Pope

if that is what it has a mind to do.

The dog does not stand on position, power,

在教皇面前舔他的卵蛋

只要牠有心想要這麼做。

狗不依靠立場、權力

wealth or fame of any kind. He will

bite the rump of the Emperor if he

tries to pick up the dog’s food; the dog

財富或任何性質的名聲。牠會

咬皇帝的屁股如果他

試圖拿走狗的食物；狗

will lift its leg on the whitewall tire

of the Prime Minister’s limousine or

shit on the Dalai Lama’s prayer rug

會對著首相的豪華轎車的白輪胎

抬起牠的腳或

大便在達賴喇嘛的祈禱地毯上

because he is a dog and that

is what dogs do and

in some secret uncorrupted part of the self

因為他是一隻狗而那些

都是狗做的事而且

在自我隱密的尚未腐化的部分裡面

we admire this honesty in dogs, because

we see it is absent in ourselves and

we know that such honesty

我們欽佩這種在狗裡面的誠實，因為

我們發現自己裡面欠缺這個而且

我們知道這種誠實

comes with a terrible price in this world.

在這世界上是無價的。
