王心凌在「乘風破浪」初舞台獻唱「愛你」掀起風潮，連帶曾合作的張棟樑人氣也再度翻紅。張棟樑過去曾唱紅許多歌曲，舉凡《當你孤單你會想起誰》、《北極星的眼淚》及《小烏龜》，可說是情歌界無敵經典，但他卻在演藝事業高峰時突然消失，近來他首度揭露當時停工的原因。

張棟樑去年因為王心凌的緣故人氣再度暴漲，最近他受邀登陸綜《17號音樂倉庫》，提起當初暫時離開演藝圈的原因。他表示，當時雖然爆紅卻過得不開心，但又希望把這個工作做一輩子，因此認為自己應該暫時停下來休息一下，「若沒停下來我可能再撐個2、3年，我可能就沒了」。

張棟樑透露，在休息的這段期間，他到紐約念書學表演，回國後整個心態都變了，也決定要為自己做些什麼，因此開始嘗試不同歌路戲路，「如果你現在看到我笑，應該都是真的發自內心的笑。」他這幾年都在馬來西亞持續創作音樂、演出，也接了電影與電視劇。
