The earth speaks first—

  not in words,

but in the scent of rain-dark soil,

  rising after rain,

in roots moving through darkness,

  never losing their way.

The fields loosen their green breath.

Morning enters me.

For a moment,

  I cannot tell

whether I am breathing the world,

  or the world is breathing me.

Beyond the shore,

  the sea continues its ancient work.

A wave gathers.

  Falls back.

Another follows.

Nothing kept.

  Nothing gone.

Their rhythm touches my blood,

and something older than thought

  stirs awake—

something that knew this place

  before it had a name.

A bird crosses the sky.

Leaves tremble

  in invisible air.

Light opens slowly

  across the water.

And the world,

  asking nothing,

  offers everything.

The heavens incline toward the earth.

The earth receives them.

Between the two,

  I find myself—

not a witness,

  not a visitor,

but a thread

  woven through their endless exchange

of light and tide,

  root and wind,

  silence and becoming.

So I fall in love once more:

  with moss drinking moonlight,

  with rivers teaching stone to shine,

  with the brief bright lives

that appear among us

  like sparks in the dark—

and leave their radiance behind.

When dawn returns,

  gold gathering at the edge of things,

I wake inside the same mystery

  that opens the flower,

  moves the ocean,

  and turns the planets through the night.

A small flame,

  yes—

but born of the fire

  that burns in every star.
