There was once a beautiful island nation where democracy was hard-won.
But today, it has become a battlefield of corruption for the ruling party,
a stage for the courts, and a muzzle for the media.
On this island, criticizing the neighboring country is politically correct,
but criticizing the ruling party has become a political risk.
So those who still believe they live in freedom
are actually trapped in an illusion of freedom defined by the ruling party.
Those who mock the neighboring country for lacking freedom of speech
have yet to awaken to the fact that they too lack it—
they have just been gradually taught that they can either only praise the ruling party or shut up.
