Writer:

Peter Kelder : He was raised as an adopted child in the mid-western United States and left home while in his teens in search of adventure. In the 1930s, Kelder met, in southern California, a retired British army officer who shared with him stories of travel in Tibet and the subsequent discovery of the Rites.

Story:

The Five Tibetan Rites is a system of exercises reported to be more than 2,500 years old which were first publicized by Peter Kelder in a 1939(80 years ago) publication titled The Eye of Revelation. Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth is published in 1985(34 years ago)

Peter met British army officer in Tibet who shared stories of living in a Tibetan Temple (Lamasery) learning from Tibetan monks (Lamas) and learned the secret of the youth of the fountain.

The Five Tibetan Rites are also referred to as "The Five Rites", "The Five Tibetans" and "The Five Rites of Rejuvenation".

In his booklet, Kelder claims that while stationed in India, British army officer Bradford (a pseudonym) heard a story about a group of lamas who had apparently discovered a "Fountain of Youth". The "wandering natives", as he called them, told him of old men who inexplicably became healthy, strong, and full of "vigor and virility" after entering a particular lamasery. After retiring, Bradford went on to discover the lamasery and lived with the lamas, where they taught him five exercises, which they called "rites". According to the booklet, the lamas describe seven spinning, "psychic vortexes" within the body.

Bradford was also instructed in how to perform a sixth rite, which the lamas recommended only for those willing to "lead a more or less continent (celibate) life". Additionally, Bradford reveals information on the importance of what foods one should eat, proper food combinations, and the correct method of eating.

Highlights vs self- reflection:

1.p.10: I was able to sleep soundly at night, and every morning I awoke feeling more and more refreshed and energetic.

2.p.xv: All wisdom is ancient, and in reality is not a secret. When you think you have discovered something new and previously unknown, it has probably existed for centuries. You didn’t know about it, simply because you didn’t make the effort to seek it out.

3.p.xvi: I recently read the words of a mahatma who said that a healthy individual displays three qualities: action, wisdom, and devotion.

4.p.xvii: Never forget that the source of the fountain of youth is you, You are in charge. You have the power to activate the life and death mechanisms in your own body.

recautions

Start slowly if you have not been practicing a vigorous exercise or yoga program. As always ask a physician if you have any question as to your health in relation to any new exercise regime. If you are overweight or have been inactive for a period, do not do Rites #4 and #5 until you have developed some strength and endurance.

To Start

The maximum number of repetitions of each exercise is 21. It is recommended never to do more than 21 repetitions in a single day as this can affect your chakras negatively and create imbalances in your body. If you are doing less than the maximum 21, try to end on an odd number as this is supposed to help with chakra alignment.

Rite No.1Tibetan Spin

Basic: Stand erect with arms out to the side, horizontal to the floor, palm down, spin around in a clockwise direction.

Advanced: Alternatively lift your index finger and keep your eyes on it as you spin. This helps with the potential dizziness. Start to spin in whichever direction your body and mind feel most comfortable. Counting your rotations, stop on an odd number when you begin to become dizzy or complete all 21 rotations.

Rite No.2: Prone To Upward Staff Pose

Basic: Lie flat on the floor, face up, palms on the floor. Lift your head and tuck your chin to your chest.

Advanced: As you lift your chin, raise your legs vertically, knees straight, feet flexed. Slowly lower your legs and head back to the prone position. Repeat up to 21 times, timing your breath to the movement.

Rite No.3: Rabbit To Camel Pose

Basic: Knee on the floor with your body upright. Place your hands against your thighs. Bring your chin to your chest(Rabbit Pose). Arch your spine as you gently move your head backward as far as it will go(Camel Pose).

Advanced: Kneel on the floor with your toes curled under and your forehead tucked down toward your knees. Arch your back and tuck your belly button up toward your spine (Rabbit Pose). Slowly lift your chest and extend out through your head as you use your abdominal muscles to bring your body erect. Place your palms on the top of your buttocks muscles keeping some pressure there to remind yourself to extend through your spine. Lower your head back while extending and opening through your quadriceps, belly and chest (Camel Pose) Inhale and lift up through your chest as you return to an erect position. Move forward to Rabbit, etc. back and forth through up to 21 repetitions.

Rite No.4: Staff To Upward Plank Pose

Basic: Sit on the floor with your legs outstretched, your feet apart and your hands on the floor(staff pose). Bring your chin to your chest. Let your head sink back as far as it will go. Keeping your arms straight and your hands and feet in place, bend your knees and raise the trunk of your body to a horizontal position(bridge pose or upside down table pose). Tense your muscles, then relax.

Advanced: Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you and your feet about hip width apart (Staff Pose). Your palms are on the floor and your fingers are facing toward your feet. Tuck your chin to your chest, drop your head back and raise your body so that your knees bend while your arms remain straight. You should look like a table (or upside down table pose). Alternatively, you can come to upward plank pose which leaves your knees straight while lifting the center of your body into an upward facing plank or an upside down push up. Another modification would be to come to bridge pose. Remember to use your ujjayi breath as these are tough! Complete 21 repetitions or end on an odd number.

Rite No.5: Upward Dog To Downward Dog

Basic: Support your body in a sagging position with your arms straight, your hands planted on the floor, and your toes curled under. Gently move your head back as far as it will go. Keeping your hands and feet in place, bend at the hips and bring your body into an inverted V position. Bring your chin forward to your chest.

These are two standard yoga poses that are done in almost every yoga class. You have all completed these two wonderful poses many, many times.

Advanced: Flow through the poses back and forth concentrating on your breath and alignment. Alternatively you could do upward puppy (upward dog while keeping the tops of your legs on the ground) to childs pose. Which feels fabulous on your spine. And of course you could combine these four sets of poses for a total of 21.

Rite No.6

p.52: In a standing position, breathe out fully. Bend over and prop your hands on your knees. Force out the late trace of air. Return to a standing position. Place your hands on your hips and press down, forcing your shoulders up. Pull in your abdomen and raise your chest. Hold as long as possible. Breathe in deeply through your nose. Breathe out through your mouth as you relax your arm. Breathe deeply in and out several times.

Rite No.7

p.88: The use of OM can produce exceptional results in the right individual. When it is intoned correctly, its vibratory frequency has a very powerful stimulating effect on the pineal gland, which is related to the seventh and highest vortex.

21 times

each rite for one week, add 3 times per week till 21 times.

8. Berni S. Siegel as a practising physician discovered three specific personality traits in people who face life-threatening illness, yet manage to survive longer than expected. They have a fighting spirit, a willingness to learn and change, and spiritual resourcefulness. It shows the same spirit of a mahatma who said that a healthy individual displays three qualities: action, wisdom, and devotion. This book contains very practical informations and great deal of wisdom can help us achieve a healthier and more fulfilling life.

9. (R.22)The Tibetan Rites are five simple kriyas (movements through two or more poses) that can be completed in less than 20 minutes and will help you live the long healthy, vigorous life of a Tibetan Monk. Just look at the Dalai Lama, who doesn’t want to look as young, vigorous and happy as he is!

Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth by Emma Tsai:

Outermost district of Himalayas lies an ancient secret passed down by the monks of Tibetan monks. It rejuvenate our health, appearance and attitude. A retired Colonel Bradford learned of the rites while traveling high up in the Himalayas. Peter Kelder reveals the secret how Bradford transformed from a stooped, old gentleman with a cane to a tall and straight young man.

Once I met my friend, she looks younger and prettier than her age. I ask her. She told me she keep doing the 5 rites for 15 years. So I start to learn for half year. Really feel refresh and get good sleep, furthermore, my finger didn’t get swollen as before. So I am more than happy to share this health message with all of you.

Questions:

I feel more comfortable, and my finger not feel so swollen, too.

6.Do you agree that religion is the dope for the people as Mainland China do?

(1)In 1950, China invaded Tibet and claimed it as part of the Chinese “motherland.” Of the approximately 600,000 living in Tibet before the Chinese invasion, only an estimated 7,000 survived. 100,000 fled the country.

(2) Sangay said that India rebuilt the Tibetan civilisation, revived the Tibetan culture and preserved and promoted the Tibetan identity. No other country has done what India did for the Tibetan people in the past 60 years, he said. The Dalai Lama says he is the son of India and therefore, we are all its grandchildren. (R.33)

11. what’s the difference between Tibet and India Yoga?

The Rites are said to be a form of Tibetan yoga similar to the yoga series that originated in India. However, the Five Rites and traditional Tibetan yoga both emphasize "a continuous sequence of movement" (Sanskrit: vinyasa), whereas Indian forms focus on "static positions".

12.Why is the seven vortexes so important?

The body’s seven energy vortexes govern the seven endocrine glands (1) the base of the spine (2)the lower abdomen, below the navel(3)the upper abdomen, above the navel and below the chest(4)the centre of the chest(5)the throat(6)the centre of the forehead, between the eyebrows; and (7) the crown of the head. When all seven energy vortexes are revolving at high speed, and at the same rate of speed, the body is in perfect health.

Description of the March Book

Offering practical instruction on how to perform the Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation, which will take only minutes a day, many practitioners have experienced benefits, including increased energy, weight loss, better memory, new hair growth, pain relief, better digestion, and feeling overall more youthful.

Legend has it that hidden in the remote reaches of the Himalayan mountains lies a secret that would have saved Ponce de Leon from years of fruitless searching for the Fountain of Youth. There, generations of Tibetan monks have passed down a series of exercises with mystical, age-reversing properties. Known as the Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation or the Five Rites, these once-secret exercises are now available to Westerners in Ancient Secret of the Fountain Of Youth. Peter Kelders book begins with an account of his own introduction to the rites by way of Colonel Bradford, a mysterious retired British army officer who learned of the rites while journeying high up in the Himalayas.Fountain of Youth then offers practical instructions for each of the five rites, which resemble yoga postures. Taking just minutes a day to perform, the benefits for practitioners have included increased energy, weight loss, better memory, new hair growth, pain relief, better digestion, and feeling overall more youthful.
