I have always wondered why many a scholar were unfairly treated during Cutural Revolution.  Some of the scholars are scientists whom were badly in need of for China at that time, say 1965 to 1975.  Why did some of them receive endless self-criticism or even severe punishment like Prof. Su here(and that even greater physicist Ye Qisun葉企孫), but some did not, like his collegue and good friend Prof. Wang Ganchang王淦昌? 

There must have had something behind the scene, or true motivation, for Chairman Mao treating those scientists like that; you know, Mao is smart and ambitious man of strategy, but he is definitely not a crazy guy.

PS  I am glad China Mainland has been 不再折騰 any more.  Still she must pay much heed to those "public intellectuals", compradors for Western Worlds, and latent quislings.
