Yesterday America ordered to close the consulate general of China in Houston, Texas, and China Mainland is preparing to close one of the US consulates as a reprisal. The majority of Mainland netizens picked the US consulate general in Hong Kong as the target. I think China Mainland would not "respect" the public opinion, though I personally countenance such a suggestion, too.
I live in Neihu County, not far away from AIT, the de facto US "embassy and consulate general" in Taiwan. Every time when I was passing that heavily-buttressed "castle", I would always have a thought. Guess what? Well, someday, somehow AIT will get back to its original identity: the US Consulate General in Taipei, SAR or province of Taiwan, China; or, by the time it will have gone forever.
