Attached below please find a piece of reportage, in which the author told the story about Chu Minyi(褚民谊), who had been always worshipping blindly toward knowledge from West or Jap, and dispising the traditional ones of our own. The author then concluded that such kind of "academic compradors" or "public intellectuals" are liable to become quislings of cultural kind; in fact, Chu is.
FYI, I first heard of Chu Minyi as my father used to tell me his personal encounter with Chu. My father had completed the sophomore year in Hosei University, Tokyo, Japan when Resistence-against-Jap War broke out across the board in 1937. Then he returned to China to enter into Central Military Academy and later became an officer in army. In early 40s, he contracted TB, a lethal disease like cancer of today, so he planned to retire from army and return to school, and National Fudan University in Chongqing was his first choice. As being the dean of teaching in the school, Chu rejected to accept my father as a juinor student and only granted him to start again from sophomore year only. Frustrated and exasperated, my father declined the offer and returned to the army.
