The "Day" finally comes.  Doris Day, my lifetime screen idol, also a long-time symbol of wholesome American womanhood, passed away yesterday at 97.  Rest in peace, Doris.

Due to most of her performances on screen were in frothy, slick comedies, Doris Day had never won herself an outstanding film award, but the twinkling smile and infectious laugh she displayed had brightened up millions of people.  That was one of the reasons she had been almost always nominated as one of ten most influential women in the world by LIFE every year throughout 60s.  (FYI, Madam Chiang was often on the list, but sometimes lagged behind Day.)  According to report, after she retired from her show business, she became an animal right advocate and founded Doris Day Animal Foundation; besides, she also received Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004, the most honorable award for a civilian in America.

I love her songs even better than her pictures.  In addition to her mellifluous voice,  she is the only singer who can clearly articulate every word and note in singing, no matter how fast the songs are.  I would like to introduce you several of her great hits : Secret love; Whatever will be, will be; Till we meet again; If I give my heart to you; Sentimental journey; A guy is a guy, Pillow talk, and so on.

PS  In Taiwan, she was often nicknamed "Golden Voice"; what you may not know is she was also called "Queen of Freckles".
