The following story reminds me of the anti-Chinese riot that broke out in Indonesia during 1998: http://www.cwzg.cn/politics/201605/27884.html When the riot took place, I was working in New York. One day I incidentally read a piece of co-ed, or a piece of writing from some contributor, on Liberty Times, claiming that those expatriates who were killed or wounded in the riot were all Chineses, having nothing to do with Taiwan. (Then Liberty Times was just a free-of-charge newspaper in America, given away at Chinese restaurants and supermarkets.) Later on, I read another news that then Supreme Supervisor Chen Luan advised that Jap Li of doing something about the connivance of Indonesian government on the riot, but Li rejected the suggestion by observing the same opinion as Liberty Times did. Now you understand how there have been some people of Taiwan today often using extremely vicious terms against people of China Mainland. PS I leave for Hong Kong to attend my nieces wedding reception, and then I will visit my aunt in Zhengzhou, and some sites around Guangzhou, including that Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. So I will skip my writings for about a week or so. |
